So if Verstone is available, it starts casting that. If Verfire is available, then it casts that, and barring both of those it just does Jolt - letting me follow up with Thunder or Aero.
It's just you. Like I said, macros can't deal with ability queuing so you're always going to be casting slower than if you do it by hand.
Yes, this was tested using NIN's Mudra Macros.
Those using macros are way slower and just suck really bad and those who don't are way faster and better.
Not to mention, what happens when the macro screws up?
Let's say you bind Hakaze > Yukikaze, if Hakaze hits, but then you need to move away to dodge an AoE, Yukikaze won't hit, and now you're stuck trying to figure out what to do because you've only relied on macros, you've never actually used Yukikaze before.
So essentially, it would work like:
1. Press shield ability as you know damage is incoming.
2. Bar switches to an identical bar, the only difference is the heal you get access to is now in place of the shield.
3. Use the heal, yay.
4. Bar switches back to the original bar.
A macro like this is entirely possible, and I don't think would waste any GCDs during combat, but I also may be wrong.
But, to be honest, pressing one more button isn't that bad, and I use my shield frequently in raids when I know raid-wide damage is coming, to soften the blow for the healers a bit.
Outside of that, SAM requires no macros; the entirety of your single-target rotation can be achieved on one bar with 1-7, and excess fluff, including your AoE rotation, can be executed using only one more bar.
Anything beyond that, and you can just add a third bar and click the abilities if you absolutely have to.
Macros are easy. There IS a delay in attacks while using macros, on and off gdc skills.
Fact.
But as of now, macros are only good for callouts, targeting specific party members on the fly or dropping a ground target AoE on selected target instantly.
Would not macros for combos
In our case macros are only needed for HUNT LS call outs, acsii jokes, and yelling out the lines to the Manderville song when we use the Manderville dance emote.
that goes for any job/class in the game. And it does not matter if you interact with people or not. Combat macros are a no go.
it's not just exclusive to SAM's. i.e. I would never macro skills on DRG or MNK or BRD or MCH or NIN, etc.....
But I agree, I use the macro system for hunts, special fates, FC invites, Discord links, links n general, gathering timers now and tons of others like ones that can toggle certain hot bars on and off with one click.

When equipped with a relic, anima, whatever, if you stand just before sitting, your weapon will glow as it's sheathed. Neat trick most don't know about, had a dude ask me how I did it the other day lol.
There's tons of cool ones like that but i'd never use combat macros and suggest nobody ever use them.
