FINAL FANTASY XIV Online

Questions from a Returning Player
I am considering a return to FFXIV after not having played since June 2016. To that end, I have just a couple questions:

  1. Does the Callback Campaign[na.finalfantasyxiv.com] only work if you're on a current player's friendslist or still in a Free Company, correct? (I've been inactive since June 2016..lol.) In other words, could someone here invite me back? Or, am I just out-of-luck if I'm not on anyone's friends list?
  2. Does anyone know of any good guides for returning players who last played during Heavensward? Something like this Guide would be fantastic. (This guide is also very good, but I think it's designed for new players.)

Any other advice is also welcome.

Thanks!!

Requirements:
  • Players to be invited to return must have a service account that has been inactive for at least 90 days (including the free play period). Those who fail to meet this requirement will not receive an e-mail even if they have been invited to return.
  • Players to be invited to return must have purchased and registered FINAL FANTASY XIV to their service account.
Doesn't seem to require a friendslist.

Not really, but my suggestion is find a good FC, focus on story quests and work your way to the new Cap.

Hmmm...the instructions on the Callback Campaign[na.finalfantasyxiv.com] page only provide the following method for giving someone the invitation:
Select an offline friend from your in-game friends list or free company member list, then select Invite Friend to Return from the subcommand menu

Do you know of how someone could send me a callback invite if I'm not already on their friend's list or in their Free Company? (I was removed from FC for inactivity, I'm sure.)

It's possible you weren't! Though they'd have to send it before you return.
So, you can't add a friend when they're offline, right?

I can't come up with a reasoning as to why they would make the promotion so restrictive (with regard to HOW you can call someone back, I mean.) I don't see any downside to making it work the same way that the new player invitations work.

Probably because it's intended to reach out to people not already coming back to the game? They probably could have made it a little more expansive, but still, the purpose of the campaign is pretty clear.

The logic still doesn't follow, as it would simply catch both types of players that you mentioned and, honestly, it could be the reason why someone might return to the game. I mean, I'm sure there are a LOT of players from 1-2+ years ago who are not on any friend lists or FCs. Also, I'm sure there are whole groups of friends/FCs who quit together ...and this could be the motivation they need to return to the game.

And, it's not like they lose that much money from giving it to people ...7 days of subscription and some other fluff...lol.

Again it's kinda like looking at an apple and wishing it was a pear. They obviously didn't think of it.
