Bought NonSteam Version from Amazon
On Friday, I bought the PC Expansion Upgrade from a Offical Amazon download service. When I went to register the code it would say "Invalid Code". Amazon refuses to refund the code and all I could do was send Square Enix a support email and hope they get back to me. (I know their support was off for Thanksgiving weekend) Has anyone or anyone you know happened before? If so, were they able to add the expansions to their account?

If your main game is from steam then the expansion would not work unless you bought it from steam. There is a reason why they dont refund codes because people sell them to other people and try to make double money by refunding it. Contacting SE support is a long shot but it is only the option you have

did you put the code into steam? or into moog station?
https://secure.square-enix.com/account/app/svc/mogstation/

I'm guessing you'll have to enter into Moog.. seems like Steam doesn't control the content of this game like it does others

I've been wondering about this myself, since I am planning on purchasing the exp as well..

You have to buy the Expansions on Steam if you own the Steam version. If you don't Steam version, then you can buy it elsewhere, but you can't play it from Steam though.

that sounds totally incorrect..

steam is just the launcher.. your SE login determines what content you see.. I'm on mog station now and I can add exp packs to my account.. Steam doesn't control the content for this game

*edit* when you bought base game on steam, did you not have to create a mog station account and enter your key there? I did.. only thing steam purchase did (it seems) is enable steam wallet for ongoing sub

*edit2* more specifically, login to mog station (with your ff14 account), click the giant "manage service options" button, then click the giant-er button, "enter expansion registrtion code" and enter the code from amazon..

I'd really love to know if this works because I wasn't plannin on buying exp packs thru steam -- thanks!

Thats what I already tried. Exactly step by step.

well.. you didn't say, so I assumed you entered the key into steam.. :)

kinda sucks and doesn't make sense because you can uninstall steam, delete your account (if that's possible).. download the trial launcher from SE, login and play your full game..

it seems purely an artifcial restriction they put there to... ??? not sure.. but have a hard time believing that steam somehow strong-armed SE into this deal

Well, I got my code from Amazon, not Steam. Because I own FFXIV Steam Starter Edition, it for whatever reason locks me into to only being allowed to buy the code from Steam.

This is correct; non-Steam expansions won't work with an account registered with the Steam version of the game, and Steam versions of the expansions won't work with accounts using non-Steam versions of the game.

yeah I guess regardless how I feel about it, here it is in black and white... (grey and black?)

I just hope SE's support would be willing to turn the code into a Steam version or something. I saw on old topics here in this disscussion forum that the support has done it before plenty of times. Its going to be $40 down the drain if I can't find a way to redeem it.

If i remember right, if you contact support they'll fix it for you.

Yeah, I already sent an email to them, but their support team isn't doing anything until tomorrow because of the Thanksgiving weekend.

It's not artificial nor is it anything to do with strongarming. It has to do with tying keys into the Steam API.

I don't think I'll ever fully understand why that applies to the expansions and not just the base game.
Gabby Nov 26, 2017 @ 6:16pm
It actually does apply to the base game. THe normal version cannot access steam features such as Steam Wallet pay. This sort of initiates in your account when you register a base key.
