FINAL FANTASY XIV Online

So... is the whole game just fetch quests? What else can I do?
So I bought the game yesterday and played a good 4 hours. One thing I noticed immediately were the huge number of fetch quests (Go here, grab this, kill that). Is the whole game like that?

I understand 4 hours isn't long enough to understand an MMO, I've played a lot of MMO's in the past.

So what else can I do in this game, other than questing?

(I'm looking for a guild, I'm on the Behemoth server, add me on steam if you got places.)

"Fetch Quests" seems to be a term you've shifted from a quest to grab something and return it to pretty much any MMO styled quest.

Not sure what to say, honestly. However the game has dungeons, raids, PVP, minigames, treasure hunting, crafting & gathering, housing, etc, on top of the continuous storyline that interweaves a lot of these options.

It kind of sounds like you have basic disdain for MMORPGs in general though if you're reducing the way they've worked for decades to a broad spectrum, negative terminology. <_<;

Just saying.

To put it bluntly, much of the MSQ will be simple talk to people, kill x style or quests. They're really carried by story which while subjective, I found to be engaging enough (for the most part) to keep me going. aside from that you have everything Seraphna mentioned, some of which is indeed part of the MSQ. So there's more to the game as long as you do more than the MSQ and even then you'll get dungeons and eventually raids through it.

Story makes you want to believe it's a single player MMO, by making the "player" as a one of a kind Warrior of Light, but there's thousands of other "Warrior of Lights" doing the same things as you.

They want you to get invested, but honestly, if you just wanna get to the good stuff faster, skip all ARR cutscenes, not missing out on much. Could even watch and abridged and save yourself hours.

so from level 1 - 50 is painful as hell

just grit your teeth and hang on

after that its pretty smooth sailing and fun.

but if your a hard core story nerd, then i guess it would be very pleasent for you then.

i like story and reading some quests, but after awhile i just instantly skip every thing on screen that involves letters lol

Yea, this is what I'm doing atm. Just stabbing myself as I grind from 1 - 50. I hear everything 50+ onwards is good.

I thought the game specifically talks about the other players as being other adventurers, while you yourself is the warrior of light.

The big beef is story telling is that pre-dungeon it says "take some fellow adventurers and do the thing" and afterwads they go and "wow, you soloed that thing, amazing".

Bardem's Mettle plays with that one; the description talks about how you're meant to be doing it solo, but then talks about how you won't be faulted if other Eorzean adventurer's inexplicably followed you all the way out there and chose to follow you in. Poking fun at themselves for requiring more suspension of disbelief than normal for that.

FFXIV frequently acknowledges the other players by simply adding them to the narrative as your friends and companions. The fact that you need a party is literally acknowledged and dealt with in the story and character dialogue.
