I did, waaay back in the day--back when it was 1.0. Which means, what? That a Steam version can never be used? Every other MMORPG I've played has crossed account details, I simply have to (re)buy the Steam version. Is this not possible with FFXIV?
Edit: Can I refund Stormblood (Steam), purchase again (Mogstation) and still use the Steam client?
I purchased the bundle, which includes both Heavensward and ARR (and Stormblood). I have never installed the PC client on this computer. Also, I can still log in and see my locked Stormblood character. As well, I have the Heavensward splashscreen and bootup from the version I purchsed through Steam.
I'm not certain why this is the issue but that is how Steam and SE decide to do things. I'm sure they have their reasons.
If you really want to use steam overlay and such. You can use your non steam version and add it to the steam. It will just count it as a non steam game
There really isn't a magical purchase Konami code to get around the fact that the Steam and PC versions do not mix, ever.
Incorrect. The issue was resolved by refunding Stormblood (Steam) and then purchasing the expansion through Mogstation (PC Download). I am still using the base ARR/ Heavensward Steam client game and launcher. Unlocks happen at the account level, but apparently the only “Steam” flag is the base software itself.
You can copy the game data itself between the two versions (everything in the /FF-XIV/game/ folder and its sub-folders), but anything else (/boot, /etc) you have to install through their respective installer/launcher. Did this when I switch to laptop from my PC (on my PC I'm using the Steam version, on my laptop I'm using the SE version. Both showing my char on NA server.
Just my 2 cents, CMIIW..
PS: if anyone ask, I'm still trying the free trial version of the game. Somehow, when I tried to install Steam's free trial version, it asked me for the CD/code key, which MogStation refuse to show on any trial account. So I had to download SE's free trial version from the link provided, copied all the game data as I mentioned above, and it worked like a charm..
This... literally is the opposite of what I said could not be done. You purchased a non-Steam copy of the expansion. Your copy is still PC-Retail, not Steam. Are you reading my posts or just opposing whatever I say?
Client doesn’t actually factor into this. My account is non-steam and I use the Steam launcher all the time.
