That. I'd be pretty upset if I had to be on all day to hit all my gathering nodes. Plus there are times where I just can't be on, like 3AM.

Also, with the current system you get to see all hours of the day in a short play session. If you only play at certain hours every day, it's kind of bad to only see the same time of day ingame too.
Now that i have your perspective i can agree with the current day/nigh cycle and i like the idea of how and why it works this way.
Did any of you guys played other MMORPG's before FF 14?
If so why did you change it for this game?
I came from WoW i love the game's lore and many of the characters like Illidan or the Lich King and others but the game itself and it's immersion started to feel stale and when i compare it to FF 14, FF 14 just makes you feel relevant and immersive in the lore of the game and that for me it's important.
I noticed that WoW launched a new patch today, i was watching a stream and felt tempted to go back and play it but at the end i thought for myself that for me as a player FF 14, despite me being at only level 16, has already become a better MMORPG than WoW was.
My intro to MMO crafting and gathering began in Runescape. I got totally hooked on farming and cooking and, even though I was unable to keep paying my sub then, it carried over into other games that I played.
I dabbled in crappy FTP/P2W MMOs for a long time before I found GW2.
I played Guild Wars 2 for 2 years or so and really enjoyed the World Events with other players, but the crafting left something to be desired for me since there never seemed to be "craft this and have fun doing it then make some money". It always seemed like I was following some guide to power-leveling my crafting so I could get the best weapons and that was super lame since I absolitely love crafting.
After that there was like a year or 2 of playing other stuff till Black Desert Online came out. I really like the crafting and combat there, but the gear grind and upgrades and PvP and lack of co-op content really disappoints me. I joined a guild there and met some really amazing people, but I can't see myself sticking around and playing the amount of time that game basically requires in order to get BiS gear just so I can craft without getting ganked by 4 dudes in max upgrade boss gear.
FFXIV came to me from a friend who found it a few months ago and was really excited about playing. I'd never played a game with a sub before since I've never had a steady income (someone else payed my Runescape sub), so I was a bit skeptical, but I tried the trial anyway. Comeing from BDO, the combat felt about as slow as humanly possible. The first 15 levels were agony for me. I thought about quitting.
Then I did my first dungeon and remembered why I missed that type of content so much. I love helping people through their first time in a dungeon and discovering new content with my friends. The crafting in this game is a blast all the way through as well, which is something I really appreciate. I've leveled a Paladin and a Black Mage to 70 so far and now I'm working on Red Mage. Super excited to start getting into Savage Raids with friends. :)
