I'd go Warrior

Paladin is easier for newcomers to get into and be competent with and teches you how to space out your cooldowns when needed. I would recommend it over Warrior which requires a bit more finesse to get the same early output a Paladin would have.

I haven't leveled Warrior, but I've leveled Paladin to 70 and it's a really reliable, mitigation-heavy class. I've been told its rotation is also more simple than that of an end-game Warrior and with the 4.0 buffs to Paladin, it's definitely worth it.

PLD is far easier at 70 than war currently. they messed up war pretty badly with 4.0 for now. got a few fixes but still needs more patches sadly some of the new skills just outright suck.

PLD, very easy. WAR and DRK takes more resource management and more offensive but PLD is relaxing.

PLD also looks cooler than WAR thanks to the shield and sword VS axe.

Neither, first timer tanks are awful.

That's why comments like yours stops people from making them. And all those poor DPS wait longer in queue's, heh.

@OP
Paladin is a fun class. I main one myself and have a blast with him, most groups if you let them know its your first time in each dungeon are fine. Most the FF XIV community is helpful and friendly and help new players.

Roll your pally and have enjoy, it is easier and relaxing (general dungeons etc) Tanking class. Learn from each error, if your not sure on a dungeon you need to run, watch a YouTube on the dungeon before hand to get an idea on fights. There is heaps of good YouTubes on every dungeon/boss fight (Thats how I got my insight to each fight prior to going in first time.

Please teach us how to tank without tanking, since we're not supposed to have a first time doing it.

Guides are good, videos and such.

Also, having a tank as your first class means you'll always go in undergeared making everything harder than it has to be.

The question wasn't about guides but about picking up the job, it is different matter. Also where did he say it is his first class? Actually his post states quite opposite ''never tanked in FF XIV'' which means he was playing something else there.
not to mention, not everyone is good at learning something from guides or videos. Some folks learn best from practice, and implying that they should become instant masters from those guides and videos is borderline ignorance. Practice makes perfect, after all, and in low level instances, even a bad tank has plenty of leeway to get better.

The point i'm trying to make here is that you should neither hold all first time tanks to the same expectations, (in this case assuming they're all awful) nor expect them to learn the same way you do. Rather, try being helpful and productive in helping them decide, rather than being dismissive and frankly, showing one of the worse sides of the community for the game.

was more meaning koishi in regards to who i was addressing, for clarity.

People will say Paladin, but what do they know? Carry a big axe and go Roe and never look back!
