The only reason you'd pick a job over another is if you're a cutting edge group competing for raid world firsts / speedruns.
And if you have to ask these questions, chances are you're not in those groups.
So for someone new the white mage is better ?
If you're that new.... I'd suggest the ArCaNist, i.e. SCHolar. But really... play them all, level them all... best way to learn not just the job you want to play but how the other jobs affect you and vice versa.
Because we are talking about Healers, are all Healers viable in Raids and Dungeons (Normal and Hard/Ex/Savage modes or how they are called :P)? I played all 3 Healers to 50 but i decided to "main" Scholar because ive the most Fun with him.
Dont want to do any Speed Runs or World Records but i do plan on trying those Hard Mode Raids
Yes. Every class / job is, especially with the rebalance / nerf / new stuff ^_^. I mean, you can still point out that class A can do B better than any other class... but the difference is not as large as before [which it wasn't that big either]. This isn't FF11 where only specific jobs can do specific things.
But... if you're making a go a SCH... why not do AST as well? For the most part, the only difference is the weapon. You can share almost all gear between the two jobs. Or do all three, even if you shared the same set of gear... so you're not BIS. But sometimes having the right job is more important than the best gear [going against a boss that does magical damage... which tank? Which healer? Ranged? Melee? Can you stun? Can you slow? Can you interrupt?].
Not dying during a raid, knowing what to do, when to do it, where to do it and to whom... beats the % difference in gear. Or just being a nice, friendly person so we don't mind teaching you or being thought by you :)
idk, my AST is already lvl 54 but im just not having that much Fun with him. For some reason i enjoy it to alot more to heal with my SCH. But ill def lvl up my AST aswell.
And yeah i totally agree with you :P
AST and WHM have good heals (WHM is a bit better on the heal potency but AST has nice utility).
Only healer I ever have issues with is SCHs and that's because there are SCHs who think it's still 3.X and they can watch netflix instead of healing their tank...
Well dont worry im not one of them, i started the game about 3-4 weeks ago so i dont even know how it was before Stormblood :P
