I did go to PC Specialists (They're a custom computer making company) for my laptop and asked my brother who had a better understanding of how to build a gaming laptop to help me build the right model for me.
Safe to say, this little laptop has done well. It still can't do ultra specs like desktops can, but I can get at least high settings and that's good enough for me. ^-^
You are putting a lot of strain on the harddrive, battery and CPU. It's just not designed for this type of workload, it doesn't have the powerdraw and cooling that a desktop has.
Hopefully NVIDIA MaxQ will change this. I dread Vega for laptop if they can't fix power draw. Pcper did a review on overclocking Vega FE and it draws up to 440w on its own.
no such thing as a gaming laptop
I build my own desktops.
final fantasy is also quite a few years old, meaning it can run on older components a bit easier, it doesnt have the latest and greatest models like some games do, reason a lot of us wont qualify a laptop as a gaming thing is because you cant upgrade the things and keep up with the latest games, you gotta buy a new laptop when you cant handle the new ones
The ones like Eurocom and Clevo are essentially desktop in laptop form and unfortunately they are hotter than ASUS ROG. Top end ASUS ROG uses i7-7820HK but Eurocom / Clevo uses i7-6700k and i7-7700k which is twice the TDP. Run very hot unfortunately. They also come with gold rated PSU not power brick lol, the whole kit is heavy enough to grow muscle if you use it for mobile gaming.
The new ASUS ROG with MaxQ is ultra thin, lightweight (2kg) and has GTX 1080.
Doesn't really matter whether or not it can run it, the average consumer laptop just isn't designed for the heat and power requirements of running games, even if you can get a reasonable frame rate.
There are gaming laptops, but they tend to have heavy duty desktop components, they are heavy, and they are loud.
The average laptop, regardless of it's performance, is simply not designed for the demand of PC gaming. You are killing your laptop running games all day.
It's about equal in performance (depending on the resolution), but as I said, laptops are not designed to deal with heat and high power drain. They are designed to give options, not designed to run games.
