Purchasing stormblood will force me to download more stuff?
I'm on a ssd and I have very little space available. Having and playing already the base game, will stormblood force me to update my game and download the expansion? Or are the files already there with the client and just "locked"?

It won't force you as you can turn off auto expansion install in the launcher. It is worth freeing up some space though, the full game and it's expansions only total 30 gb space when installed.

It will download SB (approximately 3.5GB).

That option was removed apparently.

That's acceptable. Thank you for the answer.

Didn't know that, sorry for misinformation.

Yeah, currently everyone has the same game files, regardless of what you own.

Bought the expansion, it's almost 9 gigs

Is it possible you didn't own Heavensward either? Didn't think about that, my bad.

Also, regardless of the games and/or whatever you have stored on your SSD it's best to keep space 'free'.

I have 2 250Gb SSD's (for over 3 years now) and I have always kept at least ~+10Gb free on both.

Well I do this on my normal HDD's too.

Even if somebody only has ARR (now) then that player will still have the same instalation size as the other players.

Before SB was released you only downloaded ARR (if you didn't had HW on your account) there was this option for expansion auto update and it was default on off IIRC.

Yes yes, I know, but I'm on a budget potato pc for the vacation (Still manage to run this game in fullhd in mid settings at 40+ fps, this game is optimized by the hand of god lol), so I don't care about it at all.

@Burnnie I'm not yet in the danger zone, I've still 10-12 gigs free after this download. So, no worries :)

Expect some fps drops in the new Stormblood areas though. Especially Kugane.

No they won't, which is proven by the OP. The expansion data (new zones, dungeons, trials, ...) is only downloaded if you own it while the data all players need (like new items, mounts, ...) is downloaded by everybody.
