DPS Dungeon Queue Times are pretty brutal
Whenever I play as any of the Healer roles I get like a 1 - 16 minute queue time for dungeons but when I'm running my Summoner the queue times can be as long as over 25 minutes.

That is pretty brutal. Square should find a way to fix that.

Yoshida big mistake was not making a new tank and healer allowing new gameplay for these roles. I don't mind having samurai as a dps but adding TWO of those made the dps queue a more pain in the ass.

that woulnt have been a huge problem actually. but he was stupid enough to ♥♥♥♥ up 2 of 3 tanks beyond belief in the same patch and nerf all 3 on top. and THAT was outright silly. so this result is no suprise tbh. what he did backfires at him now and he is tossing out bandaids left and right without actually addressing the problems.this will go on till 4.2 probaly.

I forgot how brutal the queues were. Started playing again after a year, trying to get through the storyline - 30+ minutes to get in Xelphatol.

I think the problem with queues is that for every healer there is there is like 7 dps waiting lol

The best balance was probably when the game was first out in ARR.

2 Tanks - (PLD, WAR)
2 Healers - (SCH, WHM)
5 DPS - BRD, DRG, MNK, BLM, SMN

There used to be only 1 more DPS class then healer and tank classes.

Now it's

3 Tanks - (PLD, WAR, DRK)
3 Healers - (SCH, WHM, AST)
9 DPS - BRD, DRG, MNK, BLM, SMN, NIN, MCH, RDM, SAM

That's only accurate if every job was played by an equal number of people.

I would play healer if I didn't have crippling fear of playing healer back when I was first starting in WOW, I tried to heal as a druid. (Back then, I was a real noob, and didn't relaize balance, the spec I was maining in, didn't mean balancing both attack and healing spells but an actual DPS role)

So naturally the Paladin yelled and chewed me out to a new player who has never ever touched an MMO until then and traumatized me from ever playing another healer class and stuck to DPS classes.

Been always trying to encourage myself to play White Mage (since it's been a favorite class of mine from the Final Fantasy series) but that fear would always come back and push me away from it.

I was pretty young back then, so it wasn't until later that I relaized the importance of roles and main-specs.

Maybe one day, I'll finally bite the bullet and try White Mage.

If u like come join me on cactuar. I'm a tank main and I do enjoy helping players out.

That anxiety you have is a pain but you just have to do it. It is like ripping off a band aid. Once u do, you will start to feel more comfortable with your skills.

This, my friends, is the problem with MMOs that still employ the "holy trinity" system. It's an outdated, and misguided design. Most people do not want to act as a sandbag for ~30 minutes. Most people do not want to just heal other people so others can enjoy themselves. Sure, there are people who find these aspects fun, but as the queue times show, the majority do not. It also doesn't help that the amount of DPS classes far outweight the tank and healer ones.

One solution would be to find a way to make healer and tank gameplay more fun. Heavensward's tank damage scaling from vitality was a step in the right direction, providing tanks for a way to contribute meaningful damage, but it was still far from enough. Unfortunately, they took another step in the wrong direction in 4.0 by taking all that away. I'm not sure what SE has in mind to improve tank / healer gameplay (if they have any), but I think the whole "holy trinity" system, the foundation if you will, is flawed. And that is not an easy thing to fix.

There's nothing they can do about it, this is what happens when 60+% of the people play DPS and then like 20% play healer and 10% play tank, you end up waiting for a tank or healer. That's why the first classes I leveled were Healer and Tank.

Up to 16 mins as a healer sucks to play on your Data Center, can't say I've ever had more then a couple min queue as a healer on mine. Tanking is always Instant, Healer is most of the time.

True, but at least with a higher ratio of healer/tank classes to play maybe more people would be inclined to give it a try?

I've met some people who HATE PLD and WAR, but absolutely fell in love with DRK....
