|THE FIX FOR: UNABLE TO DOWNLOAD PATCH FILES [30413] [25008] [20512][20495] [20496]|

|This will be as noob friendly as I try to make this guide be|

First you will need to set up a Static ip. Go here to learn on how to do so--> https://portforward.com/networking/static-ip-windows-10.htm

Now you will need to setup Port Forwarding. Now go here --> https://portforward.com/router.htm
From there, find your router brand and then your exact router model. Once found and clicked, you will see this on the page:
Application: Make sure to select "Final Fantasy XIV PC"
IP Address: Make sure to input the "Static ip Address" you setup earlier.

Now go ahead and follow the directions on the page to port forward the selected ports.

If done correctly, the ports you just forwarded are these:
UDP
55296-55551

TCP
55296-55551, 8080, 443, 80

For good measure, I recommend restarting your PC once everything is completed(Not needed though)

Once you completed all my steps, you should now be able to download the patches with no more interferences.

Excellent. If you want to expand it, other reasons that could cause that error include a firewall getting in the way and IE's (or your default browsers) settings blocking the frontier.ffxiv domain.

A last resort can also be mentioned, VPN.

There's also a slight set back fix of deleting the most recently patched file and letting the patcher reload it.

As someone who gets told her suggestions don't help a ton... it's 100% people being unable to follow instructions that are clearly spelled out for you. I constantly notice someone telling me they took a step or did something that either wasn't on the list or was a half-reading of the next step, so they got it wrong.

It's actually really, really simple to get an account going, people just rush through it and cause their own problems.

Question: would using a VPN or using a different internet provider work too or not?

Yes, those things can help depending on your individual issues.

It's incredibly ignorant how quick everyone is to scream "user error"

There is no such thing as a download that requires port forwarding. This is a consequence of how they architected their update client. Many other games update without having router issues, such as World of Warcraft and literally anything on Steam. This is nonsense.

I'm sorry but many of those games actually have the same issues for different people. Port Forwarding is a tool that fixes and overcomes issues with a user's LOCAL AREA NETWORK, not a specific program. Port Forwarding literally cannot cause a computer program to somehow do what it's trying to do at connecting work better, it just makes your computer able to actually access the ports you need to for the download via your router.

((BTW, the Linksys Standard Game Setting for FFXIV's required ports is actually by default named "World of Warcraft" on most router presets. So claiming this doesn't happen in WoW is staggeringly off base.))

It has very, very little to do with architecture and so much more to do with how your router is set to recieve and send incoming connections. What you're saying is that it's developers faults for not hosting their downloads exclusively through port 80 or 2020, which are the only ports universally open on any router. The issue with that is such download setups can choke a router by forcing all the traffic through a single point of contact rather than the hundreds of thousands built into modern routers.

What you call a consequence of the client I easily turn around and call a consequence of ISPs and Router Setups refusing to move into the current century.

So no, it's not incredibly ignorant to call it user error. The user's PC and router are the endpoints with actual issues, trying to cram everyone's internet traffic through archaic junction points is a luddite argument at best.

Imagine blaming end users because they can't download a game without using a workaround

I've been sitting here downloading the base game for 3 hours and then the launcher decided at 30% it couldn't download data forcing me to start again, I don't use a vpn and I made sure to deal with anything that could interfere

Are the 2 of you telling me that it's my fault that instead of keeping my download progress so I can resume downloading my downloaded data just gets nuked?

Welcome to PC Gaming.

Did you know that 40% of PS4 users also need to port forward to game online? NAT2 is not standard in most router configuations.

35% of XBox One users?

Oddly only about 15% of Switch Users, but for the "worst online" they have a shockingly good grasp on using interserver hosting.

No, you shouldn't have to do all these steps. Complain to your Internet Service Provider, they're the ones that necessitate these things. And no, no developer should have to apologize for keeping their internet current. Because those statistics I gave you are MOSTLY American users, most other countries ISPs don't pull this anti-consumer nonsense. (Though to be fair, the same router companies do.)

Learn how to optimize your PC and router. It saves a ton of headache in the future. I've never got problems with this stuff purely because we keep our router open and manage our own DMZ service here at my house.

You're blaming the wrong people.
