Subscriptions work in several different ways. If you accidentally purchased a standard sub that runs as a recurring subscription. you can change your subscription however I'd go to the mog station and read their billing cycles.
Entry; An introductory subscription allowing 1 character per World (monthly billing only).
* A maximum of 8 characters can be created.
Standard; A standard subscription allowing 8 characters per World.
* A maximum of 40 characters can be created. * A maximum of 8 characters can be created.
Subscription Period
30 days
90 days
180 days
The Standard is a recurring subscription so if you use that one you are billed again once the time you chose is finished unless you chanage or end your subscription.
You can change from standard subs to entry subs and visa versa but there are conditions about the billing you should review so you understand how that works.
hope that helps some.
I have a standard account that I bought through Steam. Technically yesterday's payment that I'm wanting to dispute is my first payment handled through Square Enix directly.
I've read that Square Enix is strict with refunds, and that they're unlikely give a penny back.
Would a chargeback be a viable option? It seems extreme, but I'm in a bad financial situation right now. I need to be able to pay rent for next month. I really don't want to pay £46 for something I haven't used and have no intention of using
You can get a chargeback, and probably banned because they hate chargebacks.

Not sure what to do at this point. I don't want my Steam account frozen.
How does one free-to-play mobile game make you lose faith in a developer that wasn't even developing said free-to-play mobile game?
The last time you bought gametime, was it using your Steam wallet?
1. I wasn't asking you.
2. That's not how it works. Nosgoth was shut down because no one was playing it, and no one was playing it because Psyonix wasn't fixing any of the bugs.
EDIT: On top of that, I'm seeing a lot of comments on articles and such about it, with people talking about how they never spent any money on it. Which was also the cause of death of Exteel.
Chargeback is the only way, just don't expect to go back to the game later cause they will ban the account. Although why you would is beyond me, the game is garbage.
"Con artists"? For this to have happened he'd have to have specifically selected auto-renewal while using Steam payment. That's not a con, that's just not knowing that the user didn't think to not select the option he didn't want.
The auto-renewal option is clearly labeled. Square didn't lie or withhold information. It's entirely user error.
