I can see myself why they've got rid of it. I don't agree with that reason for getting rid of it. (To make things take longer basically is why they've got rid of circumspection skills.)
The Stealth skill is actually useful from time to time to get through a dozen mobs to a quest marker, then switch jobs to carry on with quest/mission.
I've not done it often. Maybe a handful of times. But it obviously wasn't intended for use on anything else except gathering because of the speed hit.
I actually had a level 60 gathering job a few weeks into playing this character. Due to it actually being an enjoyable part of the game for me. And me starting a few days before they tripled the exp for gathering and non quick synth crafting.
That, or they have very very short aggro ranges. I've stood in front of quite a few mobs when testing out the aggro level range for my own information.
Erm... Gathering has stealth abilities, as do Ninjas.
That is actually exactly how the only previous MMO I ever played worked yes.
In FFXI you used sneak and invisible, or even more sensibly if in an area where it was possible, got on a chocobo or mount. Voila, nothing attacked you if you didn't want to fight it.
And the daft thing is, in FFXI an aggro-ing mob at say level 90+ up near the level cap, would give you probably 1k-3k exp with no bonus exp actions on you. And die in 3 hits. With 50k or so exp between levels.
FFXIV? 100-1000 exp for an aggro-ing mob of the same level as you. Almost 4 million exp needed to go from level 59 > 60. Mob takes 6 rotations of your attack sequence whatever that may be on the job you're playing. 1 minute a mob usually.
might as well just make a lobby-based game at that point, and FFXIV obviously is not that.
From this I can assume you only played only other game []iever.[/i] Just fight them, don't be a baby about it.
Also, six rotations?! What, are you picking fights with enemies ten levels above you or are you just pitifully undergeared? I solo kill B-rank hunts in six rotations.
At-level enemies out in the wild drop like sacks of potatos, so long as you're actually equiped for your level. You don't even need HQ gear to take them down quickly.
The point was, which still stands, is that in FFXI it was 25 mobs or so between levels. So it made it actually viable, sensible even to level on mobs. Yet you could actually avoid them all if that was your 'bag.'
In FFXIV at 1000 exp a mob (and that's the generous end of my estimates) it would take 4000 mobs to go from level 59 > 60.
That makes it in no way reasonable to level on mobs. There is literally no point to them being there in the game. Except as background fauna.
AND you can't avoid them. AND loads of them just annoy you by aggro-ing you. Which yes, you can 95%+ of the time just ignore the aggro and outrun them. It's still unnecessarily annoying in my opinion.
Wouldn't be surprised to see them drop the speed penalty on stealth in the big June update or some time in the near future.
Level 60 WAR within a month or so of starting. Dropped it to level SMN to continue the MSQ. About to hit 60 on that. I just dinged 59 yesterday to continue on with the level 59 MSQ missions.
