FINAL FANTASY XIV Online
Dungeon times are ridiculous.
I've been trying on-and-off for a week to try and get into the next Main Quest dungeon to no avail. -_-

play during peak hours 16:00 - 22:00 GMT.
I DO regularly read what the skills do, but PotD is still not good for learning to actually USE said skills. it's a matter of practice, especially in a party setting, which you don't get in PotD in any floors really useful for leveling since most of PotD is easily soloable. just knowing what your skills do doesn't equal the same thing as knowing the class. for example, i know that white mage and scholar both have several equivilant skills, their basic heals and improved versions, AoE heals, zone type healing and panic-heals, as does astroligan. problem is, scholar and white mage have two almost opposite play-styles, with scholar being more pro-active and white mage being reactive healing instead. this is due in large part to scholar having more MP in most situations in reserve compared to the WHM, while the WHM can heal more damage per spell at any given moment typically.

if you only level them in PotD, this difference isn't immedeately obvious, and isn't likely to be noticed by a leveling player thanks to the fact that most people don't tend to NEED a healer in PotD unless they've just stepped on a mine or a luring trap went off in an already crowded room. same thing for tanks. While there's three seperate tanks, they all have relatively similar skills, an emnity combo, an AoE aggro skill, their ranged skill, and a tank stance or two. but like the healers case, these classes all have rather different playstyles that you won't notice immedeately and actually learning how your class should be played in a party is hard to manage in PotD.
Dungeon times are ridiculous.

As everyone else has probably already said, it all boils down to your chosen class, server population, chosen content type, and time of day. I'm just back from 5 Trials in a row on my Tank to pass the time - and they all popped within (or just after) 5mins at 4-6am EU time, which is the complete opposite of peak time as you can imagine. If it WAS peak time, it'd be <1min at most (if not instant-pop), whereas my Healer would have a 3-6min wait and my DPS would have a 10-20min wait.

It's a pretty well populated server, so this is entirely as expected.

Unlike most, I have plenty of time to burn, so even when intentionally joining a long queue I'll always have something to do (and this makes it feel more tolerable - waiting around ALWAYS feels longer if you're doing nothing during it). Crafting & Gathering is a good way to fill the void - think of it as a way to feed your class later with filler-gear between tiers. It's usually a good idea to have a holy-trinity (DPS, Healer & Tank of Choice) when you can - this ensures you can play content whatever way suits your mood, and you have a queue-shredder via non-DPS roles when you just want to get ♥♥♥♥ done.
It also boils down to your language search options. Duty Finder will not place you in a group that does not match your chosen grouping languages. Food for thought. My DPS wait times are usually under 10 minutes, but that's because I'll role with any group.

Ah, yes, the reason I want to finally get around to learning a second language.
COnsidering the game has a built in translation system there's very little reason to need to be fluent in a language to use these search options.

Even more considering dungeons do not require any sort of communication.
uhhh, not sure where you get that, they require plenty if even 1 person doesn't know the mechanics.

My comment was meant in jest. (There are a hundred better reasons for learning a second language, after all.)
Finally got in yesterday, it was for "The Naval".

You mean dodging orange circles on the floor? Or dpsing new hitpoint target when it spawns? Heavensward dungeons are more demanding such as The Aery or Sohr Kai but at this point so far in the game you should be already experienced enough to survive any kind of situation.

Yeah, now he should level up new job from the start or forsake his favorite one, I don't think so.
you learn real quick you need a healer/tank if you wanna progress story. this game lightly pushes you and then those queues are the hard push, you will wait over an hour on the end main scenario dungeons if you are dps.

And yet queque times you talking about are proof that most of people don't think that way, after all they are playing as DPS, aren't they?
the most well rounded players 60 everything.
Meanwhile, I main a monk, on one of the least populated servers in the game, playing at non-peak hours, and still got into Baelsar's Wall in 15m the first time.

Duty finder is cross-server.
And as for the rest of my statement?

DPS. Non-peak hours. 15 minute queue.

Yes, some consider it as a part of end game.

Not cross server, cross world. Cross server would probably be insta queue times even for dps.
