This game fills the 3 role gameplay I've been looking for, and therefore I am enjoying this a lot more.
Runescape is (and I assume you're going with oldschool if anything) very grind heavy, but that's why that game is fun if you got time to sink into it. But mostly my nostalgia is making me see that game in a bright light, maybe it ain't as good as I think it is. I never reached end game in Runescape, I believer there were raid bosses and whatnot where you can earn insane amount of money. I loved the grind though, and some quests.
FFXIV is more about the story and playing with friends (if ya got any, or just go solo).
With a role system in this game, it's pretty darn fun, you can end up with maxing everything however since you can just swap classes at will.
Both games are a timesink. Depends on what you like since they are quite different.
there is a free trial version of this to lvl 35 try it
Play FFXIV.
Runescape is wayy too difficult to get into now in days because most of the low level content is DEAD. Good luck doing some of the early quests that require content that is dead. You'll spend most of your time playing catch up and trying to grind levels.
Final fantasy on the other hand is still fun on the lower levels. If you find friends to play with, it makes the grinding much more enjoyable, and they can join you in dungeons and quests because they level sync everyone. You overally don't feel left behind.
The only content in XIV that could be considered "dead" are optional raids that you have to go out of your way to do...and even then it's really not hard to get a group together and do it anyway. Everything else is very much active thanks to the wonderful world of Duty Roulettes.
And if you didnt...Then why the ♥♥♥♥ you kept investing hours in this?
Try both. They are both f2p
Raiding is enjoyable; or rather was, until this tier churned out some of the most tedious encounter design in the game. Raid prep is boring, time-consuming, and expensive; and once you've cleared and farmed out BIS, there's no reason to go back and keep raiding if the fights aren't fun. Creator, especially, given how awful A9S and A11S are. 9 for being nothing more than a glorified dummy parse that PF still manages to screw up somehow. 11 for having loads of unpredictable mechanic skips that cause CD alignments to go ♥♥♥♥♥ if you're not purposefully holding back beyond the opener.
The reasons I'm even considering picking up Stormblood are because my friends are picking it up, and I have a reasonable shot at server first Omega.
