Can't get past character creation
Just bought Dungeon Siege 1 and cant get past the character creation - i can change gender and hair style but none of the other toggles have a visible effect on screen and clicking "next" causes the game to soft lock (I still hear music but the game does not load further nor can i back out/exit short of tabbing out and closing through task manager)

I've tried the DSVideoConfig fix, setting to run as admin, and trying several compatibility modes as well as starting from steam and from the DungeonSiege.exe directly in steam apps files. I have also done multiple uninstall and reinstall when I find new processes (at bottom) to try to make sure I'm on clean files.

Windows 10 home 64 bit operating system
Intel i5 4590cpu at 3.3 GHz and 16GB ram
NVIDIA GeForce XT 1050 TI with driver version 445.87

I have seen several fixes(below) I have tried but none have worked. I have also seen many threads asking about a windows 10 fix. Is Dungeon Siege 1 just dead on windows 10 systems for now?

https://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Dungeon_Siege#Low_frame_rate_in_fullscreen_mode (not sure if it applys as i can't get to game play but tried it anyway)

Ok. found the below

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1148174213

did all the download and install steps. get the new Legends of Aranna logo screens, etc, however when I try and make a character ans start a new game I have the exact same issue where i can change gender and hair style but none of the other toggles have a visible effect on screen and clicking "next" causes the game to soft lock (I still hear music but the game does not load further nor can i back out/exit short of tabbing out and closing through task manager)

none of the troubleshooting steps in the guide mention the character creator so I'm stuck again. any other suggestions?

Tried running from steam as well as from the DungeonSiege.exe both as admin and not. any other suggestions?

I had another thought about just importing a save file and seeing if that would work but I'm having issues finding a save file for dungeon Siege 1 that is immediately at the start of the game.

Anyone know where I could find a save file for that?

You may edit the steam-settings and play windowed. That works for me.
stay healthy!

I'm not having success getting this to run windowed. I found several variants the below but all options still start and run full screen on my PC. Can I get directions on how you set the "Run windowed" option?

Found the hint to change the Steam-options. right click on DS, then switch to options and enter "fullscreen = false". Hope this works for you.

tried this and still launches full screen and still soft locks at character creation.

Thanks all for the help but I'm just gonna get a refund.

The command-line argument is not "fullscreen = false" but "fullscreen=false". Spaces are very important when passing arguments as inserting one usually means another argument.
I'm having a similar problem to milesalmon. If I do a clean Steam install of the base game it runs fine. I get a resolution warning when the engine starts but after clicking on OK the game works fine.

If I go through the expansion installation process, the game works fine in the menu and character creation but crashes as soon as the engine starts. Forcing it to run windowed is the same, it works fine up until the engine initialises.
