Inheritance thoughts and opinions [SPOILERS]
Alright so I have finished the DLC twice now with the different endings and I got to say I'm very pleased unlike some people here seem to be. I am also very happy the DLC got made, huge thank you for that!

Having gone through the original game countless times and talking about the story and speculating about the story with people in here I was pretty set on how I saw the story of the painter and his family but after the DLC... I am not so sure anymore! :D

We have choices here too in some places and the most obvious one is the mother/father room that is in the "flashback" (i'll call it a flashback now till someone points a better word for it lol) where we can choose which parent we "prefer" (got an achievement for that on my second playthrough). That affects the room the paintings are but also memories found later such as the birthday cakes and the room where you follow Mr.Scooter. After seeing how both ways end and turn-out I can't really say that the painter was the only "bad guy" in the whole ordeal. If you "prefer" the father you can hear him crying and being sad over his wife leaving him deal with the birthday all alone. In the cat corridor room the father/painter is also saying that nothing has to do with his wifes appearance like I initially thought. There are some other bits and pieces too which made me really question the way I saw the whole story but I'll leave them for later messages if someone has the patience to read through this whole text lol.

I've also found some semi secrets (like how to get the knife memory from the safe) and I still have a few I would like to figure out (you haunt me sun door ;_;). Also still wondering if I would have to do something after finding all the drawings and arranged them in the right order because the daughter says "there must be more to this".

All and all, I am really impressed and happy we got to play the story from the daughters perspective, questions just keep on coming. :D

ps. I SAW THE POTATO IN THE FIREPLACE DEVS, WHY YOU BURN SCOOTERS TREATS FROM ORIGINAL GAME ;__;

Spoilers under the evil black boxes, don't check them if you want to avoid the spoilers. :3

There's a lot to the Painting/Crayon segment too, other secrets and non-puzzle crayon drawings.

You even get Sword of the Serpent this way, I'm trying to get The Tree and the Apple, and Once Upon A Time...No idea how or where to start there though...

Can't seem to find that safe you mentioned.

There is a room with a fire place, dining table and a huge clock. If you open the drawers next to the clock you can climb on top of the drawer and click the clock which starts ticking on changing the room. You can click again to make it stop. In one of the rooms there is a safe in the back of the room on the wall and a code on a paper sticking out from the bookshelf! There is a memory in the wallsafe when you open it. :)

and yeah, there are! Just felt like the message was getting way too long with my rumblings lol

Well, looking at the fact the ending can be either way based on actions, I think the DLC is trying to make it vague because neither ending so far is confirmed as the 'true' one. The girl can't remember EVERYTHING in one go, so she has to pick a side. I've tried to get a 50/50 balance but I'm either doing it wrong, there isn't one, or it's much harder to get.

What about weird furry babyface?

Yeah and the outcome in both is pretty bad. One being the girl burning and the other being that she is going to be same strict parent to her own kids but at least she lived and got to understand her father but on the other hand in the non-apologetic one the "insanity of the family" stops. No clue which would have been meant as the true one.

No solid ideas for that one yet lol, need to dwell into the game for a bit more to make a solid theory to the whole thing. For now it's all just wild ideas going back and forth.

There are also things that are locked and I wonder if they can be opened somehow. Like the door with the sun image, drawers in the hallway with the growing bookshelfs/wolf shadow and drawers in the room that the safe was in (the phone from the original game is on top of the drawer, wondering if we could call the phonenumber again lol).
I think I'm going to experiment some. Though is it possible the puzzle pieces affect future playthroughs? You only get the last pieces by doing everything, and even after scouring the house top to bottom there's nothing new/changed by the puzzle.

I don't really know because at least when I didn't find them all in my first playthrough they were all gone when I started my second Inheritance run. Will go to our old Layers of Fear discord channel a bit later and do some thinking and talking and experimenting too lol, secret solving time again!

Anyone noticed that you can actually pick up one apple in the weird parcour sequence (the one where the basket filled with apples is throwing apples at you and the knifes are flying at you).
You move very slow when you pick it up and you can throw it at something but I didn't see what this is going to do exactly.
Ideas;

- What if you picked up the puzzle pieces in the order that the finished picture results in? I might be wrong but you seem to put the pieces in as the order you pick them up, so what if you do it in order that the game shows? I have 7 of 9 memorised in terms of progression but I can't remember which memories give the midde top and top right drawings now.

- Piano without crayons or getting it wrong, about to try that

- It's probably impossible but what if you do the Witch story memory without him stopping once? I've done it enough to know the sequence her head is forced to turn but it always gets at least one interruption.

I tried taking it with me, but it vanished after taking the ball. Why not throw it back in the basket? I couldn't get them all in a drawer...

Nevermind, found the third ending. Had a weird idea to try something after solving the puzzle, and it worked. So, I got The Tree and the Apple just now.

What did you try?
I am currently exploring every inch of the house after solving the puzzle again.
Is there something I have to look out for, just one tip is enough, don't want to spoil the rest for me :D

Nevermind, I think I found it!

The red paintcan in the chest is much more important than it seems

Update on piano: Nothing new, progression as normal.

I tried to take the key from the deerhead room to the Sun Door, but the game for some reason decides that key is useless now and discards it if you take the key and leave.

That black X on the chest must mean something...maybe related to the 'What Time Is It' page and the clock you can interact with?

On the puzzle pieces: It's much simpler than you're thinking. Look at the dark marks on each one, and compare them to the wall behind them. Once you see the eyes, it should click. That having been said, I'm missing one, so I don't know what they do yet...

ETA: The black X just marks it as treasure, I think. It's a treasure chest under a palm tree, after all. It is curious, though...

Oh there IS more to it than that. :sans:

Solving the extra layer to that finished puzzle nets you a third ending
