I am almost 100% sure Undyne is the 'canon fantroll' that someone got from the tier on the undertale kickstarter
The hilarious part was that Hussie killed off the fantrolls just one page after introducing them, and they didn't even get speaking parts.
Undyne is closely tied to the story so I doubt it would have been a fan-character. Besides, if you backed at that tier, wouldn't you want to announce it to the world?
undertale is actually just a homestuck fangame
Undertale is heavily inspired by Earthbound, which is also a huge inspiration during the first 4 acts of Homestuck.
I believe muffet on the other hand is also an oc/paid for character, but unlike the hidden monster, she turned into a one hit wonder. Nice design an all.
never actually says his name. The first line he says to you is "I'm so sorry!". It's a joke. That's literally all it is. I thought it was funny and charming, and his attack patterns are really unique.
I thought it was because Toby was sorry he had to put him in the game.
That was one of the parts of the 'get your thing in the game' tiers, you had to be flexible so that it would work as part of the world. An elephant-looking kangaroo thing with a 'sexy 3D jiggle' and who is 'good at art!' just stands out like a sore thumb. Though to be honest I thought Woshua was a bit out of place as a normal monster in the early zones too, and may have worked better as an encounter in the labs where there are more construct-like mechanical beings.
In my opinion, the fursona would have worked waaay better if the emotes were better picked, and the form was more expressive than just being a bipedal animal. If it needs to stay chubby and friendly, it could have been made into a quadrupedal version that shuffles along the ground using its belly like a sled and emotes more like a mix of a dog and a moldsmal, a wobbly, hungry, dork-thing with a black mop-wig covering its face over. Maybe drawing stickfigures on the ground to try communicate. *Asks for directions*, *Wonders if you're gonna eat that*, *Can't find his way to the art club*, etc. ACT responses include stomping the dirt drawings out, drawing back, tipping it over, etc. I dunno. Anything to fit better?
Then again, I say this without ever having encountered it nor wanting to seek it out.
