mysterious key?
anyone have any idea what the mysterious key sold by bratty and catty opens up, if anything? something exclusive to violent runs maybe? or just something really well hidden?

There's TWO locked doors you may have encountered. The key opens one of them. It does not open the other.

It opens up the red house, next to Napstablook's in Waterfall. There's not much in there but a few diary entries that are interesting. I'm not sure, but you may need to read them if you wanna get a 100% perfect run. Emphasis on MAY.

On the subject of the red house next to Napstablook's, before using the key I was able to get an "it's locked" prompt from some spots BEHIND the house as well, and was able to use the item there, however after using it, the prompts no longer appear. Is there perhaps a way to get into the back of the room through that open window?

Might be. There's some furniture descriptions in the raws that I haven't found ingame. Maybe those are from the red ghosthouse.

By the way, there's two other keys that you might want to check out if you already haven't. Save before talking to Sans at the end, then reload. Repeat a few times to get a key to his room. Then snoop around there to find an another key that unlocks a hidden door behind the house.
