Undertale

Save File Location? (Spoilers maybe?)
Hey.

I just finished the game. Totally.

I need to know where the save files are located. I need to back up my current save, so that my precious babies can live in peace forever. Some day I might want to replay the game and I just can't do a true restart. I need to put the save files away somewhere safe and sound.

Thank you.

know where appdata is on your comp? it's different on a lot of them i think, for me it's C:/Users/<YOUR USERNAME>/AppData

from there it's just Local-->UNDERTALE
(i think you probably gotta back up that whole folder)

'bout to do the same. we're better than flowey if we don't rip the characters out of their time and create new ones instead, right? :p

ON THIS TOPIC, because I wasn't sure - the files are just saved locally and not through any steam cloud stuff right?

my sister is about to play using our shared steam library and I don't want her getting anything spoiled for her...

I don't seem to have anything saved to my steam cloud myself, though I've heard some others say it's supported. Either way though, if your sister's accessing it through a shared steam library (and not simply logging into your account) you shouldn't have to worry, since steam cloud files are account specific (and your sister is accessing your library through her own account if you're using that method).

Just a little warning : Backing up your save files may keep that game state secure.
But remember how devious this game and its inhabitants are.

Some things you cannot undo.

incredible
after the genocide ending replace the folder doesnt help you at all
yup you are screwed

If you want to keep playing after a genocide run, leave the game open on the abyss, and wait. It takes time, so lower the volume for the game and do something else. After a while, an entity will communicate with you, without a voice (no sound gabble). The First Child makes you an offer, that if you accept, will allow you to play as you previously did, but will have an irreversible effect on your games that you will only notice in the 'good' endings..

However, (double spoiler) given there is no way to reclaim your soul, the only way to get it back and let you have a completely good ending, is to turn off steam cloud sync, delete your undertale appdata, uninstall Undertale, then re-enable steam cloud sync and re-install. It worked for me

Hey, so I finally found the Library and went to the application support but I can't find the file in there anywhere? And typing that file name into my computer search does nothing...

I have a slight problem, I'm on windows 10 and when I look in the users in drive C, I can't find my steam name in there, nor any trace of a Local folder in any others. This scares me as I don't think I can do a full genocide run or full reset and have the backup to use, or get rid of the taint from a full genocide run.

The same way to get to the undertale save file in windows is to enter %localappdata% into windows explorer. That'll take you there, and yes it includes the percentage signs.
