How Does The Battling Work Exactly?
Now I know it's a bit of a misleading title. I'm NOT asking how to battle, I'm curious about something else.

So the heart represents the soul, right? So does the soul leave Frisk's body when they are in the monsters turn of attacking, or does the heart also represent Frisk's body, which is the thing really doing the dodging? Also, is the soul doing the hitting when in battle? I doubt it is, as Frisk wouldn't be able to use the weapons they carry. If it is indeed the soul on its own and as a result is smaller than the body, then I guess that bosses such as Sans would be kinda impossible to beat for other characters from other games such as Mario, or Shovel Knight etc. as they would be too big to dodge the moves that have tiny dodge gaps. Unless they would also use their souls to dodge and fight. Does that make Sans one of the most unbeatable characters in gaming history, or maybe even fiction altogether? :sans:

Umm.... imagination? Does there have to be many reasons for what the sould is doing when dodging? ^^

Nah, I'm more of just wondering what we would see in battle if we were another character watching :fhappy:

Turns out that the heart is actually a reflection of spoiler's right nostril and ideally they have no desire to get things stuck in it. However the monsters only attack with varying forms of spaghetti so it's not that bad if the nostril does get plugged. Unfortunately there is no sauce on the bulk majority of the spaghetti and that makes it a bit more uncomfortable.

Did I clear things up for you?

Personally i was wondering the same too. i just put it down too, it being a cool unique battle mechanic that was overlooked (not explained) somehow, Toby probably has an explination for it.. probably?

Yeah, probably. He does seem to love his work after all, so if he hasn't got an explanation, I'm sure he has still thought about it :sans:

You didn't read my post? It's true to the lore. I know because my dad works at Toby Fox.

I always tought it was the whole body, and depending on wich side it would be a sideways View or an above view. Normal battles being an above view and the box being a magic forcefield kinda. Undyne is above view as she probably snares you and you can only turn around for the spears.

The sideways views are papyrus, sans and muffet.

I always thought the soul was separated from frisk in a fight except in when it changes color.

my headcannon is that when the human enters a battle, the soul becomes visible from the outide of their body. i imagine it is outside of the body but only by about arms length. also regarding the view point for each color of soul i just imagine as if the bullet box (or lack there of in nuetral final boss) probably just represents the area the fight is taking place and is in front of the monter that the human is fighting. so when the heart is red or normal the human has the ability to float sorta. when they are blue they can't but can jump. when green they are floating but can't move around and have a sort of magic spear thing they can use to block that bosses's spear bullet thing. when it is purple they are stuck in a horizontal suspended purple web but they can move up and down on the three main thread thingies. when they are yellow they can still float and move around freely but their soul is just upside down and the projectiles you can shoot i would imagine would come from the phone. also for the battle system: my head cannon is that the fight, act, item, and mercy button are actully in front of the human but goes away while they are dodging. I think that because asgore destroys the mercy button with his trident and also the pacifist final boss basically destroys the fight, item, and mercy buttons at one point. also the human probably uses thier soul to press the buttons or something like that since the soul is shown on them. also that soul can be attacked in the fight, act, item, mercy menu in a partciular boss in the genocide route.
