Stay Or Leave?
Imagine you were in the place of the player character in real life. If you were given the option to leave and attempt to brave the ruins to return to your loved ones, would you do it? Or would you take Toriel's offer to pretty much foster you, treat you as her own, educate and be the closest thing to a parent you can have in the ruins?

Of course for the player character they would have to worry about their emotional attachments to the surface, who us as players do not know and so have no emotional connection to, so replace the player character's emotional attachments with your own from when you were a child, such as friends and parents as well as the forms of entertainment you could only get up on the surface such as gaming.

Still too easy? Shall we add that you only have one chance to survive the quest. Death is permanent for all endings aside from the final battle in true pacifist.

So a quick sum up of advantages and disadvantages.

Advantages: A foster parent who already seems to love you, treating you as if you were her own.
Almost no danger to you, as Toriel is powerful enough to scare away any who try to harm you.
Free stuff. Stuff that at the age we're talking about would probably be enough to entertain you (such as the toys at the end of the bed).
Some of the local monsters may befriend you sooner or later.
Snail facts.
Spider bake sales.
Though it is unlikely, Toriel may one day take you to the exit door of the Ruins to meet Sans (voice only of course).
You'll keep your education.
Have books read to you.

Disadvantages:
If you weren't/aren't into toys, you may end up with minimal entertainment.
Loss of surface loved ones and things.
Sooner or later, Toriel might start making snail pies (if you like the sound of that, or just generally like snail pie for some reason, remove this from disadvantages and add it to advantages).
While yes, you might make friends with local monsters like I said before, the knowledge that Toriel is your guardian may instead scare monster away, resulting in the making of friends to be very difficult.
As Toriel said, the Ruins are quite small once you get used to them, so sooner or later you may feel claustrophobic.

Other things that is very dependant on your preferences:
Toriel will take you to her favourite snail patch, and if you show you enjoy it, she'll likely take you every time she goes.
Bad jokes may be told to you.

So with that, would you risk your life to return to the surface and your loved ones, or live with Toriel who will take care of you, protect you and treat you as her own child, making her happy to finally have someone with her.

Remember, its your child self that is in this situation, not your current self in the body of a 7-10 year old or so. Though if that's too hard to answer, I'm not saying don't give your answer as your current self in a young body, so go ahead if you want. In fact, I'd like to hear your answers for both your child self and current self (assuming you're a teen or adult of course).

I'd stay because my family hates me.

What if I go for true pacifist? Free everyone and then stay with Toriel!

Good reason.

Option 3... Wait, what? Is it what I think it is? If so, Flowey, go back to the second room! Stay! Stay!

I don't think any adult would wish for themselves to be set to live with a sheltered childhood pretty much alone without any peers even with Toriel as their mother figure. Staying in the Ruins forever would of been my last choice, though the difficult one would be to stay in the Underground with everyone, return to the surface alone, or return to the surface with everyone..

At that point, I probably would of given up before actually getting to the end and stayed down there with all the friendly monsters.

Depends on what background i would have.

My own? If i would then have decided to "only i know the answer" reason to climb a mountain like that... i would make friends with everyone and stat actually.

Yep, I'll go ahead and add to make it clear you could choose any ending. Of course remember, the threat of perma death is still in that quest (though lets exclude the final battle in the true pacifist ending shall we?)

True. But everyone is of course different.
You think your child mind would feel the same then?

Yep, your own background. Replace everything about the player characters with yourself, aside from the age. Whatever the age of the player character is, that is the age you should also have.

If I were to react as I would when I was a child, I'd likely complain about being bored all the time because the Ruins are a pretty small place. Wouldn't last a day without wanting to get up and leave.

Asgore, that's no way to speak of your ex-wife XD
That of course is also an option though :P

I've beaten Pacifist three times.
Does perma-death worry me in this situation?
Nah. I'm too determined for that.

As a child, i probably would have decided to stay there; i proably wouldn't be thinking about the future consequences of my decision very much, and the idea of being raised by a kickass goat person would've sounded pretty awesome to me. Of course, a bunch of other things would play into that decision, but i'm not gonna get into all that.

As i grew up though, i would probably get bored and possibly lonely, as OP had mentioned; i'd miss my family and whatever friends i had on the surface, and those toys wouldn't be very interesting anymore. If nothing else, i'd be curious about what lie beyond the ruins; either way, i'd probably attempt to leave at that point, though it would be tough having to leave Toriel behind.

Yeah but with true pacifist you could get back with her if you wanted to.
