Can't Switch Fight Modes

I'm sure I'm going to feel like a complete idiot here shortly, but why can't I switch between fight, mercy, item, and talk during an encounter? I get the option to choose one at the start and then I can't get out of it. Keep dying to basic critters because I just keep choosing the same talk options over and over while they're at max health.

Hope you checked your option settings and set up your controls, cause it's possible you may not have set up the controls for your joystick, if you don't plan on using one, the arrow keys can probably help.

Press X to exit the menu. If you select ACT for example and on the next turn you want to heal you will have to press X to exit the ACT menu and go to the ITEM menu.

The game uses 3 action keys Z (confirm), X (exit) and C (menu, used on the world map to see your stats/inventory)

I'll try it again. Might be my keyboard got screwed up from using macros. Just wanted to see if it was a glitch or something simple on my end.

I think I know what you mean. For example: You press enter on fight, but don't know how to get out of it.
Press shift.

When you enter a fight something will pop up (Ex.: frogget hops forward). When that's there, you use the arrows keys to change fight modes.
