Undertale

I don't understand Chara (SPOILERS)
Why is he so violent and hateful? Was there an explanation? His backstory doesn't seem to give him any reason why he'd want to kill everyone upon returning to life

Asriel doesn't have a soul anymore, so I undrstand why he's so violent.

But... Why... Why Chara? Why you do this? It's your kingdom to... you were his brother.. you were their son.....
Chara is meant to be a representation of YOU, the player. Everytime you kill for EXP, gain LV, start from your previous SAVE, and RESET everything robbing everyone of their happy ending... It's Chara inside you. The backstory is merely to setup yourself as a part of the story.

So the question isn't why does Chara do these bad things... it's why do you?

According to someone i have spent a whole three hours theorizing with, Chara was using the monsters. What im explaining is from the True laboratory and includes spoilers to the story if you havent beaten the game or even played it. She went up, fell in (didnt find out if it was accident or not, most likely wanst an accident) and gained the trust of the monsters. She found a way to poison himself, aka using the posionous flower they found, and he died. Chara wished to see the flowers of his village before he died. He had the whole thing planned. He wanted to die after gaining the love and trust of the monsters. He told them his "wish" so Asriel could absorb his soul, and so Chara could kill the human race. What Chara didnt plan was that Asriel would resist him, so when the humans attacked them because of misunderstanding, they both died. Asriel's body turned to dust on the golden flowers, which Dr. Alphys used one of those flowers and injected DETERMINATION into it, to see if his test would work. Thats was the birth of Flowey.

All Chara had was their unexplained hatred of humans and "not being the greatest person" according to Asriel. There's not much detail about what Chara did beyond laughing off the fact Asgore got poisoned from them accidentally adding buttercups to his pie, but all of the monsters were still filled with hope having them around.

The most atrocious thing we know happened was that Chara took partial control of Asriel's body after having their soul absorbed into him, and attempted to massacre their village. Chara's hatred ultimately costed Asriel his life.

I don't think it's that simple.

Asriel is a boss monster like his parents, Chara would have enough time to take his soul into their own to become powerful enough to take out all humans themself. Chara didn't need to die to achieve this, but they did.

It's quite possible Chara was sincere with Asriel in wanting to use their soul and 6 others to break the barrier, but they couldn't see beyond their hatred for humans when they arrived to their home village. Asriel resisted Chara's desire to attack, because Asriel believed this would spark another war between humans and monsters.

Could be that chara's hate towards "humantiy" could stand for our criticism on games in general?
the barrier is the goal for the game, and with chara dying to surpass it, we are "done with" the game, and criticize it. We demand "Golden Flowers". better games for our standards. Flowey is a golden flower, and he symblizes this game, and chara is us, the gamers.

Maybe i am reading too much into it, but this game got so much fuel for it xD

And the whole thing is debunked by the fact that Chara could've simply absorbed Asriel's soul and become all-powerful. Instead (s)he chooses to commit a suicide.

After awakening from death, Chara is confused. Their plan to break the barried had failed, and (s)he was left with no purpose. Players guidance shapes how Chara's personality grows from there. In genocide, Chara becomes pure evil. In other routes, they don't.

Actually, the game say's that the villager's saw Asriel carrying Chara's body onto the surface and they attacked. It's true that Chara wanted to kill them all but the villager's attacked first though so yeah.

My facts were taken from theorizing with a person. We learned the facts from true laboratory, and the genocide ending. I myself never did genocide so for that I had to rely on my friends facts. Chara could have absorbed Asriel's soul, the problem being that he didn't kill Asriel. He did not have a hatred towards monsters, only humans. I think that when Asriel and Chara died because of the humans and Asriel resisting violence, he grew a hatred towards monsters too. You can't just hate something or someone you've never seen or met before. there has to be a reason for chara's hatred towards humanity, and that answer we may never find out.
