Do Names Affect the Game?

I played the Pacifist route and the neutral route with the same name and I've just started the Genocide route with a new name, would that affect the game somehow?

There shouldn't be a name that actually changes the game (other than naming yourself Frisk, and that brings you not-completed Hard Mode.

Some ingame character names also give out a response.

Only "Frisk" changes the game, and "Gaster" relaunches the game. Other names of characters in the game will either give you funny responses, or say you can't use that name with a response from said character.

Yes. You'll still get your Genocide consequences even if you change your character name. )

I think names have something to do with the Fun value, which determines if some random nonsense encoutners occur like prank phone calls/wrong numbers. As well as the more impactful grey NPCs and the mysterious door in Waterfall in the hallway that shouldn't exist.

Kinda like Missingo back in the day if anyone recalls how that worked. Only intentional.
