sans's employer

so i managed to get all of my questions answered via the wiki, but one thing i was never able to see any information about was who employed sans

sans clearly has a primary job that he drops all kinds of hints about during the neutral/pacifist route (wandering the forest near the ruins, referring to his time in the booth as a second job, etc.) and more bluntly during the genocide route (he must be good at his job)

but i never saw anything that explained who is employing him or providing him the large sums of money to do it (since papyrus explains sans is paying for their large house with money that he has no idea how sans obtained)

the throwaway/easy answer to how sans acquired the abilities to do his job (teleport, weaponry, recognize timeline changes, etc.) is w.d. gaster, so although that could be wrong i am going with it for now

can anyone provide any information on who exactly decided to pay sans to protect the world?

I think a good addendum to that question, is how long sans has been doing that job as well. The monsters in Snowedin say they just sort of showed up one day, but there is no point of reference for how long ago that was. I for one would love a timeline of activity for the Mt. Ebott underground.

Maybe there's some other type of connection between sans and Gaster. But indeed, sans is one of those who knows everything about Gaster's experiment.

Who did Gaster asked this question besides Sans?
Some say that King can also travel through time as he remembers all your defeats. Well, that's not an argument, because in this case almost all the main characters are capable of travelling through time...are they...?

I think he works for the king or royal guard to some capacity.

1. Undyne gets mad when she sees him sleeping at his post.
2. Papyrus constantly reminds him he's supposed to be watching out for humans.

so my understanding of gaster's connection to sans is that gaster is the third skeleton brother since he is also a font character and allegedly that is his workshop in their house
the wiki also points out one of sans's attacks is the 'gaster blaster' or something so i extend that to mean gaster provided sans with his abilities

so if your theory is that gaster gave sans the money from his job as royal scientist and the ability/responsibility to protect the world... i could buy that

asgore remembers defeats? i did not lose to him
also i do not believe any of the characters can travel through time
sans recognizes it and flowey can additionally reset the timeline but otherwise i see no evidence to that effect

that is his second job as he explicitly states on the neutral/pacifist routes

ok i went and reviewed the battle text for sans and his use of 'we' in tandem with the rest of the dialogue seems to strongy imply that w.d. gaster is the answer to all these questions

the abilities, the weaponry, the knowledge, the responsibility, and the money

also that they must still be in communication which makes sense because he also said something about having some kind of ability to manipulate the timelines so he could travel to w.d. gaster which also explains the teleport thing...

Mmm. Perhaps ASGORE is hiring him? As he gaurds the entrance to the castle, where ASGORE is protected by sans. Sans "judges" anyone before they can pass to meet the king? Sans is incredibly powerful, so it makes sense.

again: i am talking about his primary job and not the secondary job
