I'm that awkward person that says all three, honestly. Though I personally like CHARA-cter is the correct way to say it, I keep saying Chara-mander on accident (it was the way I thought it was pronounced at first), then Car-a...for some reason. I blame all the videos I watch that pronounce it that way.
On gender head canon...I'm not sure? I've read so many gender neutral Frisk and Chara that it's pretty jarring to see them have a specific gender for me. I guess female if I had to pick?

I called them 'Char-a' as in charcoal. Its probably more correct to pronounce it more like Character but when I read it for the first time, thats what I read it as so it feels more right to me.
