Where did Papyrus x Mettaton come from?

I'm curious on what caused the ship Papyrus x Mettaton. I'm assuming it was something that was said in-game but I'm unsure.

JN Wiedle, the inspiration of both Papyrus and Sans invented this ship on her twitter and asked people to draw it.

I'm fine with shipping as long as it makes sense. That's why I won't look at them, because this ship makes no sense.

Well yeah but when it comes to things like Alphys x Undyne or Sans x Toriel. The reason they are shipped is because well Alphys and Undyne are already a couple and Sans and Toriel share a bond and since Toriel is divorced....SHIPPING

Shipping seldom makes any actual sense.

Papyrus and Mettaton literally don't interact at all throughout the entire game.

Why Mettaton? Especially when you have far more believable candidates like Undyne?

I'm fine with shipping as long as it makes sense. That's why I won't look at them, because this ship makes no sense.

Why not look at one to get the basic gist? Try that last one. It's just Papyrus after shopping with Mettaton.

To be fair, Papyrus has a bunch of sexy robot action figures in his room, and he's obsessed with Mettaton. On one phone call he claims he wants handsome "bishonen" eyes like Mettaton.

papyrus often uses MTT brand stuff.
and he's so naive and has no idea what sex or romance is and mettaton probably thinks it's cute.
i support it but in a non-sexual way.

Well...
I see something they have in commun:
They are both really (too much) proud of themselves.
They are both "I am great and I know it" all the time.
Aloso, they are both crazy but well... there is a lot of crazy monsters in that game :p
