There is three way to play:
-Pacifist: kill no one, be friend with main monsters.
-Neutral: kill/spare as you like
-Genocide: stay at the same place until ALL the monsters are dead... and move to the next place.
Each of them give you a different ending and the gameplay change a little.
Pacifist you are weak because of the lack of XP but you got the ending where almost
everyone are happy... (best ending ever)
Neutral: this is the easiest because you get some exp but still have to beat the "normal boss"
Genocide: two of the bosses of the game become REALLY hard.
Like, hell... also you need to camp every monsters which take time.
Note: even if you are pacifist, you will get the neutral ending...
you need to reload and do some stuff which will enable the pacifist ending.
(I don't give a lot of detail, I don't want to spoil too much)
Yeah grind all the encounters or else you'll be too weak to fight the final boss
Killing is unnecessary: negotiate out of danger using the unique battle system.
Let's just say, it's better to be away, from that part of the flame.
If you're confused, "EXP" does not mean "experience" in this game. Due to potential spoilers I'm just going to leave it at that...
You don't gain any XP from sparing monsters it is impossible.
EDIT: I should of said this at more people TBH
