[Spoilers] Would you smooch a ghost?

During my first run through, certain lines of dialogue struck me as out of place or ... strange. At one point, when Alphys is helping you through Mettaton's multiple-choice quiz show, the host asks--

Would you smooch a ghost?

Alphys doesn't look amused, and you're forced to answer yes. But why would Mettaton give a frak whether you'd smooch a ghost? He's a narcissist.

At that time, I hadn't learned how Mettaton was made. In the True Pacifist ending's victory lap you have a chance to learn more about his origins, that he's Napstablook's cousin and next-door neighbor, and so on. I thought about this.

Mettaton was a ghost before Alphys built him a machine body. Alphys took all of her inspiration from anime and manga, of course.

He became a... ghost in the shell, you might say. :sans:
