Gender Discussion? Spoilers -_-
So I get that the game has to stay gender nuetral to allow the player to choose their own name. But even so, the story should be built around the player having a gender, and at first i thought, Girl! Makes sence, you have the option to date Papyrus, and to a lesser extent Sans. Seems legit. But things get all mixed up when Alphys shows up. And as the dialog states Alphys is a girl, so the whole dating prospect should be out of the picture. BUT NO, the ENTIRE hotland (Nuetral and passifist) is Alphys trying to keep her cool whildst talking to the player. And toward the end a letter which the player delivers to Alphys is mistaken as a love letter from the player, and you and her go on a date. Where she confesses to love Undyne, who is also a girl, as proven by monster kid in his dialog, and by frikkin LOOKING at her.

Now dearest reader prepare for conclusions:

If we are a boy: Papyrus is a Homosexual, perhaps Sans too, Alphys can be both bisexual and a lesbian. Though she prefers Undyne, her dialog suggests that she may also have intrest in the player. And we are gay as well, by dating Papyrus.

If we are a girl: Papyrus and Sans are clear. And Alphys is still lesbian, and always will be due to her love for Undyne.

Genders not a thing?: So if that were true, why would they lable characters with "she" or "he." Or maybe, genders are a thing, but they don't influence... eh... you know...

Before i wrap this up i will state that i do not have a problem with them or real people being lesbian or gay, no problem at all, i just want to know which one Undertale's cast are meant to be.

Now, to conclude, the path with the least amount of labels would be our character being a boy. But either way, Alphys is lesbian. Which im fine with, but i feel it does not fit the story well. So i ask you, what are your thoughts? I would love to hear them :D

And if you can help it, dont rub my nose in someone else' thread. Thank you

EDIT BASED ON COMMENTS: I would like to clarify a few things:
I undertand that all these "dates" were silly get togethers that are meant to connect you to the characters better, i only talk about them seriously because it's about the only evidence i have to conclude what gender Frisk is and direction of the other characters.

I get that this is meant to be up to you to decide your own fate, and by that logic we could be any combinatoin of genders and it mostly dosent matter. But that logic makes for a bad converstion. Im only making the assumption that we go on every date we can, and use that to try to determain what the characters INTENDED genders and preference would be.

Quit assuming that this is consuming my life, im not taking this that seriously. I have beaten the game in every way i can, and i only want to delve into logistics. So if you're thinking "Who the heck cares?" You dont have to voice your distaste, i have feelings too :)

Papyrus knows barely anything about dating, so suggesting that he is one orientation or another doesn't make sense. There's no indication he even knows the distinction between heterosexual, etc. Probably on purpose, to make it an equal experience for the male or female MC.

I'm pretty sure they do.
I can't see goatmom undergoing asexual division.

For all we know the two monsters produce magic baby dust and a child materializes, honestly.
Given the first tape found in the true lab, it's implied Toriel was pregnant when she was hammering out mom puns. Asgore's response also reinforces that.

That wasn't my point, my point was we don't know they have intercourse the same. That was a purposefully over-exaggerated example that the socket doesn't necessarily go into the outlet. They might not split, dust, or whatever but they're a completely different species. Snails fire darts at each other's faces for crying out loud.
Frisk's gender is the same as that of the Pyro from Team Fortress 2.

gender is stupid OP
+1

i don't know about you OP, but i kind of like being able to have a game where i don't have to choose between a boy and a girl character, and having that descion effect the plot or who or what i get to be able to access. what exactly are you trying to do with this, give the characters sexualities and then judge them for it?

i always thought that Alphys was nervous all the time because she had a social anxiety issue, mostly because of how nervous she gets about calling you, (as someone who has problems with it myself i would pretty much ♥♥♥♥ my pants if i was in her situation too) not a crush on Frisk/the player character, but you have a point with the love letter thing.

but this isn't a damn dating sim for ♥♥♥♥'s sake, it's a game about choosing whether you want to mercilessly kill the monsters or not, and the consequences based off of that. why should the character's gender be in any way even plot-relevant, let alone the entire game be "built around it"?
I know it has little to no meaning to the plot. But I know everything about the plot, so im just delving deeper into the inner workings of the story. And yes its not a dating sim, but its darn near close.

oh my god lmfao

ok. ok. i'll try to put in a polite answer.

your character is gender neutral. that doesn't mean "they're a boy or a girl depending on what you think," that just means that they're...neutral. in-between. they don't fit into either category and that's fine. napstablook is also referred to using gender-neutral pronouns. i'm not really the best guy to be talking about it, but that's what's up. they just don't identify one way or another.

papyrus isn't gay or straight either way, because he doesn't actually feel anything for you, he's just going on a date because he's stupid and innocent and thinks that's how you become friends. he doesn't seem to have real romantic interests. he's just stupid.

alphys also doesn't have any interest in the protagonist; she only dates them because she feels bad. alphys is bi. she has romantic interests in both undyne (who she ends up with) and in asgore (according to the mettaton quiz)

long story short the "date" sections are absolutely not real dates and don't actually have any romantic connotations for your character, they're just parodies of dating sim games. you're way overthinking it :tobdog:
Thank you for your responce, my soul doesnt depend on knowing these answers, i just wanted to see what everyone else thinks. Also thank you for the polite version of this comment :D

Like, really. The dating things are comedy relief, they hold no ground outside of said spots of comedy relief, only to be refered back to from time to time. The Papyrus date is goofy and silly because Papyrus is a dorky skeleton that doesn't know how dating works, the Undyne 'date' is funny because she's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ intense, and the Alphys date is funny because Alphys is incredibly awkward and you ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ roleplay out a date with you or her being ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Undyne.

Nothing about these are serious, at all. None of the characters are even attracted to Frisk (they are a CHILD after all), so deciding Frisk's gender through their sexuality is moot anyway.
Your prob right about it meaning nothing. But its fun to discuss. Thanks :D

Is the Undyne date even really a date? It's been a while since I was on it, I thought she was just trying to be the best hostess ever to get back at you for sparing her. I don't remember anyone saying it was a date.
Yeah, It wasnt really a date, papyrus wanted you and her to be friends. But Undyne is still salty about you beating her, papyrus challanges her by saying "I guess Undyne is not up to the challange of friendship" or something like that. Undyne sees it as a test of her abilitys and she strives to be your friend.

Cool, so if this is correct regardless of player gender, and Papyrus has intrest in dating you, then based off of this, for Papyrus to be strait, the character would have to be Female.
No, because Papyrus makes it obvious that he never was interested in the protagonist that way. You get friendzoned at the end of the date.

He went on the date because that was what he thought he was supposed to do, after you flirted with him. Doesn't really tell anything of his orientation.
Valid point

I would say that the main character is female, it would make the most sense.
How
Read the original post for evidence. Sparknote version: The path with the least amount of "labels" is your character being female.

What worries you, exactly?
What other people think Frisks gender is. Ya dont gotta call me out because i didnt mention a second string character. Im focused on mains.

This point irritates me greatly, and it's a fault of my generation. Not everything is always intended to be sexual, nor does everything have to be made about sexual matters.

Papyrus isn't a homosexual, rather his entire gimmick is that he is too naive and innocent to function right. The guy can't even tell when you're insulting him, he takes your insults as compliments. I don't think Papyrus fully grasps *what a date even is*, the guy had to steal a guidebook from the library just to go on one.

As for Sans, what? There's literally nothing to suggest he would lean either way.
Yes that is totally valid, but it dosent make for a fun discussion. And as for sans, the reason i remotely mentioned him was because he took you out to dinner twice. And payed both times. Not that that is a tell-tale sign of him hitting on you, it just points very slightly in that direction. Which is why i wont draw any conclusions about him. This is all assuming that hey have agendas, i agree that its all for fun, but again, the discussion is boreing that way :D. Thanks for commenting.
