Game won't start

So I was tired yesterday and exited as usual, and now the game will not start. I kept restarting my steam, but it just says 'preparing to launch Undertale' its been 10 minutes now

how i fixed it was just by deleting the steam_api.dll file and relaunched it though steam and it seemed to of worked then... Dont know if that would help you, but it should work

I need help. I am having the same problem. When I open undertale, the steam library says 'running', but then it just closes. it doesn't even say I am playing undertale. I tried making it the newest update, i tried going offline, but no matter what, it just won't launch. Can someone help?

If you've tried all the other fixes (and they obviously didn't work) but not this one, do it. After deleting that file, I finally got undertale to work. (thank you for posting this btw)

You are my savior, I had tryed everything then I saw this. I wanted to play through to the pasifist ending and I was tired of trying, So i looked in the Steam Folder and saw lots of them, I deleted them all and I loaded up the game. From weeks of trying and a tired woman, I thank you with everything I have. If you have anything you want from steam, I am more then will to buy it for you as thanks.

I tried reinstalling it at first, that didn't work, so I thought I would get rid of anything that isn't part of the game files and deleted said file

for me it says running, then it says syncing, and it doesn't open

I have the same thing but different, I will press "play" and it will say in green "Undertale - Running" but then it just says undertale
