Avoiding Genocide
I know doing the genocide run does change the next run but the question is does it effect every pacifist run from then on or just the one after. Second in that case can I just avoid all that by sparing the king because it's mostly for the Sans fight that I kind of want to do...

You will regret this.

Sans is the final boss proper of a genocide run. All battles after that are scripted and you're locked into the genocide route.

You can just fight Sans and then reset from there, but doing so will make Flowey call you out on it.

I recommend going for the genocide run last because your actions do affect everything.

The only way you'll be able to do a pacifist run afterwards is by deleting everything in your Undertale folder.

it's possible to get a true pacifist ending after a genocide run, but it involves a lot of involved computing and editing... long story short, you're gonna have a bad time.

This.

Sans is the final hurdle to completing genocide. If you wish to stop the genocide route after killing him, then just reset. Do not continue further after that.

You can exit the game right after killing Sans and then reset it to avoid the permanent thing, though you obviously won't get to see the real ending (which is, honestly, cool and thematically fitting--if you've already made it that far). If you go forward to the throne room, everything after that is a cutscene and your fate is sealed.

Flowey will be pissed at you, but you can still have your happy ending.

Oh! I wasn't aware of that.

Sounds kind of tricky though (and cheap too).

You can also ragequit during the final "choice" if you happen to be a sore winner.

someone demonstrated that after you [REDACTED] you can restrict all users from reading the files that are generated, so the game can't see that they are there, but steam will not put them back because they are technically still there.

I reset after killing Sans and I didn't get Chara in the next true pacifist ending.
