End-game enemies early on? HELP???

So I finally picked up this game after seeing numerous images and, truth be told, I can already tell I'm gonna enjoy the experience. Only I have one small issue. After getting the cell from Toriel, every enemy I've encountered has been end-game. I don't know why or how this has happened, but it's pretty damn tough facing enemies this strong with so little experience. Why is this happening? What have I done to trigger it? Can someone please HELP ME?

What did you name yourself... out of curiosity?

If you named yourself Frisk, you activated hard mode.

That's what you get for looking up spoilers and ignoring the game's warning, I suppose.

Hard mode ends with some unique dialog after the Toriel fight, so you may as well just see it through.

You activated "Hard Mode".

It's a more difficult, extremely short joke mode that only lasts until the end of the first section of the game.

You should reset and pick a different name, to experience the full and normal version of the game.
