Difference between reset and true reset? (end game spoilers)
I just got the true pacifist ending after beating super flowey, going back, doing the true lab, then beating Asriel. I booted up the game deciding to try a Genocide run, and Flowey greeted me telling me I can reset everything. But I dont see an option for a regular reset, just a True Reset, which apparently erases the game's .ini files? Can I do a genocide run without a true reset? I just want to go back to the beginning of the game, but with the game remembering all the tiny bits of info it knows like me beating the true ending.

RESET
A normal Reset can be done at any point during the game, aside from the two times you get a True Reset instead. A normal Reset will send you back to the beginning of the game. Your EXP and LV are set back to their base levels, and all strikes against being unable to get specific endings are removed (you're basically starting over fresh). However, there will be dialogue changes depending on things you did in the previous run. Characters will remember what you did, most notably Flowey. You cannot change the name of the fallen human after a normal reset unless you named the character "Frisk". You will have no choice but to reset after encountering the neutral final boss, unless you meet the requirements for the true pacifist or genocide route.

TRUE RESET
A True Reset only happens when completing a True Pacifist or Genocide Run. A True Reset basically makes the game act as if you are playing it for the first time again. You'll be able to change the name of the fallen human, all dialogue is reset, and no one including Flowey remembers anything you did previously. However, there are two things that I know of that will carry over indefinitely even after a "true reset" the consequences for completing the genocide ending, and the secret Snowdin cave door.

Does it reset so that once you True Reset, the data of your true pacifist completion is deleted and you can not True Reset until you complete true pacifist again, or is the data of your true pacifist completion stored in the same place as your genocide completion?

Thanks!

I’m not actually sure. I don’t know if True Resetting after pacifist writes your pacifist save into one of the other file# files, or if this is only previous neutral runs. file0 is always your current run.

I believe only completing genocide however writes an additional file into your steam userdata, and that’s only the Steam version of Undertale. If that is what you are asking.

Maybe completing the requirements for the Snowdin door does as well. I’ve never managed to do it so I’m unsure.
