Oh...um. ♥♥♥♥.

Mature? This game gets REALLY serious if you're a genocidal bastard.

if you're a pacifist, it's most likely 13.

13 or 15 and up, probably. Violence, mild language, disturbing images.

13 sounds about right. What was Earthbound rated anyway?

Genocide= Very dark.

Pacifist= Lighter hearted, but caution.

Genocide is done if you attempt slaughtering everyone. Pacifist is opposite.

Seeing as how the rerelease of mother 1 on the nintendo eshop got a teen rating. This probably is the same application here.

I think it would be rated about 13 unless you are going for a genocide run. Just make sure your kid spares one monster at the start and he is locked out of the path.

I mean, it gets pretty disturbing during genocide but is that really a reason to give it anything higher on that alone.

The original ESRB rating was Kids to Adults, the precursor to Everyone. When it was released on the virtual console a few years ago it was rated Teen.

If it's a scripted part of the game, then yes. That's kind of how it works.

Sounds about right though, if you've actually played through earthbound the game gets pretty damn scary towards the end.

Except I don't see how it would straight up be worthy on getting an M rating from the genocide route. Yeah the game gets a little creepy and alot more disturbing, but is it actually graphically showing you anything explicit? That's my point here....

I meant that it would be fine for kids around that age, based on ersb rating, as long as you make sure at least one monster is spared at the start (thus locking out anything that might give it a higher rating).

I don't personally think it would. I thought you were implying that because it's kind of hidden content it wouldn't affect the rating. Sorry if I misunderstood.

I guess that I personally, would not let my kid play through the genocide run, at least not for their first play through. They might just think its like other games and grind exp just because thats what is expected in other games. The genocide run is meant to be a conscious choice to murder everything because you can. At the very least I don't think that the genocide route is any worse than m rated violence. I played alot of m rated games when I was 10 and younger, they didn't really bother me but. The genocide route bothers me now. That speaks enough for itself.

I mean, the OP is probably a parent asking for their kid. We should at least let them know how to avoid the dark and scary route. They might not even be a gamer themselves.

There's a few mild sexual references among other forms of crude humor. Undyne and Alphys almost kissing, Asgore commenting on Alphys showing him the wrong anime, the guard taking his chestpiece off as the other guard opens up to him, etc. I'm not sure if those specific examples would effect the rating or not, but generally any suggestive themes automatically raise a game above the E rating.

Genocide gets kind of dark plot-wise, but I don't think having a dark story alone is worthy of an M rating. There's no gore in the game at all (everything just fizzles into nothingness upon death), and I think sans clutching the stab wound on his chest as it drips blood is the ONLY part of the game where we actually see any form of blood at all.

I'd probably guess the game would be rated anywhere from E10 to Teen, regardless if you're doing genocide or pacifist. Not mature at all but not entirely appropriate for young kids either.
