how do you ACTUALLY RESET?
so i've been playing this for a while, but i kinda messed up a bit along the way ( not going into detail ). So, any like file routes to go along and reset the game completely? as if i never played it, not even once? and the dialog is as if i would normally play the game if i just got it?

i tried to find a discussion for this question, but i couldn't locate it. I apologize if there is one?

But if you can't really reset the game without a big giant process, then does your past playthroughs effect the new playthrough AT ALL?

thanks in advance

That's going against the whole game.

You made mistakes.

You can't go back on them. Your past WILL hit you. Good or bad.

To answer your question OP, just go to appdata > Local > Undertale
Then delete all the contents of the folder.

When you boot the game up after it should be clean.

I wouldn't reccomend doing this unless you're really, really unsatisified with what you have.

The reason why you can't do a reset like this from within the game can be caught on when you play it. Your descions have weight to them. You can't completely clear up your problems.

Unless it's the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ matrix and you can hack life, you won't be able to do what you can in this game in your life.

Unless you manually delete the appdata folder, you can't completely reset the game, because you will always be reminded of your choices.

i was very unsatisfied with what i did, and i believe that the actions effected the story entierly and i would like a clean playthrough of it without my stupid mistakes when i didn't understand how to play. i'm sorry if it upsets you, but i really would rather have this cleaner playthrough

also thank you dat potatoe

I'm not mad or the sort. It breaks the concept of the game, but I understand why you'll do that. It's fine. :fhappy:

It doesnt really matter the first play through because you end up with the neutral ending
!?! Sep 30, 2015 @ 8:16pm
Who did you kill?
Or do you just want to change the name?

really? because your bizarre behavior of striking through someone's post who actually provided the requested information suggests you might be

if you're completed multiple runs of the game and you want to make sure none of the ending flags are interfering with your desire to access all the game has to offer in all forms (IE all the slightly different endings based on your past clears,) hard wiping the game's data is the easiest way to do that.

but ultimately you should quit ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ up threads asking very simple questions with non-answers. noone has to answer to you regardless of their reason or intent

You can do a true reset after a pacifist run. But I don't think it wipes out the genocide run. And that's the only place where I see an issue. The genocide route being a permanent thing is a bit much, especially since you won't understand a lot of the game if you don't do one.

I'll admit that part irks me a little. I'm all for 'punishment' over something like a genocide run but it's a bit too heavy handed in some cases. The permanent save file corruption combined with mocking people for watching this route rather then do it themselves is a bit excessive is all I'm saying.

Unless you finish a Genocide run, nothing is permanent in this game.

Just know that if you do accidentally kill something, you can reload your last save. The game will still know what you did, but it will not ruin your true ending. If you've already saved after killing, I would recommend just playing the game to the end. As long as you aren't doing genocide, you will be able to reset and still get the pacifist/true ending. The game will remember things, but it will not effect the ultimate outcome, at least I don't think it will. I did pacifist on my first playthrough, so...

Exactly. The game will reference what you did in past play-throughs, or things you erased by loading an old save, but nothing will effect the end result... except beating a Genocide run.

Hm? What happens if you beat Genocide?
You can never undo that you did it (without wiping your save entirely).
