How do you "properly" Spare Whimsum?
Whimsum runs away no matter what right? Sparing at the start of the battle isn't proper.. Is there some combination of Terrorizing and Consoling that I'm missing? Do I need to just check her a few dozen turns?

I'm asking because I somehow missed Froggit and Whimsum in my last Pacifist run in the credits (and got every other enemy yellow). Froggit should be easy (although if someone knows the exact way for a fact I would appreciate them mentioning it). I'm asking because I'm going for a completionist Pacifist run next to see if anything changes. My goal is to get as much gold as possible.

I think if you spare enemies "better" you get more gold. Just doing one option, then sparing seems to give less. Some enemies can be spared but will give 0 gold. Giving Temmie Temmie Flakes (in battle) gives like 90 gold when sparing. I do need to test this for other monsters to be certain though.

You can fight Temmie more than once, but a second encounter seems to be pretty rare.

I did a second pacifist run and got all the Yellow names.

For Whimsun, do one fight where you terrorize and then console him, then do a seperate fight where you just console him. I missed the yellow name the first time because i just spared all the enemies in the ruins right off the bat.
Froggit just requires a compliment and then spare as far as i know.

As for the Reindeer, Gyftrot: You have to fully undecorate, and then spare. Giving him a gift will mess it up. Just don't give Gyftrot a gift and everything will be fine.
Eh, but I got Gyftrot and gave him a gift every time I've ever fought him in every playthrough..
Oh I could have sworn that Whimsum ran if you Terrorized him, thanks.
The thing with Froggit is that I did console compliment him..I did terrify him once in that play through and didn't bother to talk to the X frog or the fourth frog. Must be the latter that was needed.

Yeah the encounter rate in that entire area is stupid low, and theres like 2 other things you can find. Doesn't help that the first encounter always seems to be Temmy, and you get Temmy flakes a little later. Not a problem for me though because I'll be afk grinding for gold ^_^

To be honest, I don't know 100% if giving a gift to Gyftrot makes the battle not count towards yellow text, I was going off someone elses assumption who didn't get the yellow text. I've always done at least one fight without giving him a gift.

That's probably why you can't get his name to turn yellow in the credits.

Like I said, I never gave him a gift and it was yellow for me.
No you misunderstood. I did get him to turn yellow but I had a theory that the more gold you got from a fight, is a measure of how good you did. But he doesn't give gold in that fight, and seemed sad every time I went back to talk to him. I did get his name yellow, but my goal isn't just that you know!

Edit: Should I delete my comment if it was a reply to someone that deleted theirs? -_-

Yeah, I got him mixed up with one of the monsters you had mentioned in the OP. My mistake.

I think you might be on the wrong track as far as gold being a measure of how well you did, though, at least in a general sense. You seem to get just as much (if not more) for killing monsters.

It just seems like in general you get more gold for getting better results when sparing.. I could be wrong though. There are quite a few fights where you get 0 gold but get more if you do certain things better. Like flirting with those slime things.

There are actions that will cause an enemy to drop nothing, but how much gold you get is static depending on whether you killed or spared the enemy.
For example, Just consoling or sparing a Whimsun will make it drop 0 gold, but terrorizing it first will make it drop 2 gold. Theres no method to make someone drop "More" gold, just a way to have a few enemies drop none at all.

So here's a couple questions that I'll drop here rather than starting a new topic:

1. How many times do you need to "properly" spare an enemy to get their name yellow? Just once?

2. Has anyone noticed if getting all enemies yellow has any effect (likely on the next playthrough)?

1. You need to fill a certain condition once; it's not always directly related to sparing. For example, Aaron's yellow text is from putting on Spooktunes in Napstablook's house and walking back to the room with the save point where you'll get a special encounter. Shyren requires you to hum with her a bunch of times.

2. It has no effect; it's purely for completionist sake.

Well, I'm still not confident I got Whimsum's credit text. Just have to hope I guess. But I did get a strange thing to happen that didn't happen the next time. This is at least the 20th Froggit fight for me, and a Froggit + Whimsum pair showed up. I decided to do nothing (checked Froggit) twice and let him hit me both times. And then he was sparable. It didn't work next time..

Actually, that's outright wrong. Icecap drops more gold if you steal the cap.
For anyone else reading this in the future, consoling Whimsun makes its credits name yellow

You can immediately spare Whimsum in the Ruins. Right off the bat, nothing required.
