Undertale

I have a question about the barrier.
The game says that to cross the barrier, a human soul and a monster soul are needed. Nothing about this says that the humans have to be killed, so why did asgore have to? Couldn't he and a human simply walked past the barrier at the same time?

Well, it probably requires a single vessel with the minimum power of a single human soul and a single monster soul combined.

Also, about neutral run ending, where Frisk "goes through the barrier" even though Flowey destroyed Asgore's soul and already absorbed all the other souls, there are 2 outcomes from this.

1- Frisk actually absorbs the 6 souls that rebel against Flowey and passes the barrier like that. We never see those souls shatter after all.

2- Since Frisk has a determination soul, he/she has enough determination to cover up for the lack of a single monster soul, and still can go through the barrier.

I believe it makes sense both ways, but I might have missed some information that conflicts with these things I said. We know he/she definitely somehow passes the barrier though, considering the call from Sans (And maybe others).

I know this part didn't have anything to do with what you asked, I just felt like mentioning it regardless.
Consider that the rule was likely only made to ensure that if a human entered, they could kill a boss monster in order to escape. This was also likely done so humans could wipe out the monsters later if need be. If the human magicians wanted to fool-proof this as much as possible, the souls would need to be held within a single entity.

Actually, what happens is that Photoshop Flowey with the 6 human souls (7 human soul equivalent) has enough power to change the world/game to his will. This is why this boss is separated from everything else in the game, Flowey has made the world his own. Instead of using the power to break the barrier, he uses it all on fighting you instead in order to push his kill or be killed mantra.

When the 6 souls betray him, they along with your own soul rebuild the world/game as it was, but with you already placed outside the barrier so you can leave.

The fight with Asgore, and really you killing any monster, is thus rendered entirely pointless. Flowey only needed you so Asgore would reveal the souls.

So you're telling me that Omega Flowey can literally reshape the entire world, while all Asriel (God Of Hyperdeath) did was shoot stars and making all monsters sleep... Bruh

GoH can, but he can feel emotions due to the monster souls.

In my understanding, yes, you need one human soul and a single monster soul to GET PAST the barrier. But Asgore wants to DESTROY the barrier. And it seems that is needed for that is to use seven human souls.

But then couldn't he take seven humans after one human falls in and then break the barrier. Without killing anyone?

We don’t know if the souls need to be within a single entity or not, but Toriel does point out that Asgore could have crossed the barrier with one soul then gotten the other 6 from the surface.
