Walk around until you see a yellow star thing.
Go up to it.
Press Z
Press Z again.
There you go.

seriously guys stop screwing with them

when you get to vegetoid you have to request permission to use its bathroom it leads you to the save button literally

after you pick it up press f4 it brings up the pause screen and from then on you can save and load all you want

It's the yellow shining things on the ground. They're manifestations of your determination and allow you to "SAVE."
