[SPOILERS] Undyne the Undying Giving you a spear.
So in the pacifist fight with Undyne if you get hit with all of her attacks and try to mercy her she eventually say "Look. I gave you a spear to block the bullets with. Do I have to explain this any more clearly?" She gave you a spear to block her bullets with and the player sees this spear as a straight blueish line with another line coming down from one end.

But in the fight with Undyne the Undying's fight you have that exact same spear that you use to defend youself with.

So why would she still give you the spear if she truly wanted to kill you?

Ya I thought of that. But it seems like she really wants you dead and if that's the case she would give you a spear. So I almost feel like it was taken by force.

And if you did take it by force when. My best guess is during the time where she is talking to monster kid and is fading.

Pacifist: she's giving it to you
Genocide: she's trying to hit your with it and you're yoinking it.

Maybe. But I feel like if that is what actually true Toby would have made blocking with the spear feel more resistive. Idk, I was just wondering thinks and trying to find meaning where there might not be any.

None the less I still love to hear other peoples theories as to why this is.

She truely doesnt want to hurt you, explains this in the game. She learned how to fight from Asgore, who never fought back during their fights and never struck her once. She is tough but actually merciful.

This does make a lot of sense, but the only thing holding me back from 100% accepting this theory is that right before the fight starts she says to you
"I, UNDYNE, will strike you down!"
If that doesn't have killing intentions I don't know what does.

If you weren't green then half her attacks would be useless.
Maybe it is just as simple as, you have the spear in the genocide run because that game mechanic was introduced with Undyne in the pacifist run so keep it the same for consistency.

But I would find it really cool if having the spear in the genocide run had some more significance.

Because then the fight would literally be impossible.

Perhaps the spear is a side effect of turning you green?(So she didn't literally give you the spear, but it came with the green SOUL)

Ya these are both probably why you have the spear. But i would find it really cool if it had more significance.
