you just cant avoid the ghost attack without hitting the mad dummy.

If I remember right there's no way to spare the guy anyway. I think you have to fight him.
EDIT: Worded badly, you can't hit him with fight. I think you know what I mean though, with his attacks. (trying to avoid being spoilery?)

Thanks. Just gotta "YOLO" it and see if it works, otherwise i`ll have to do a genocide run after I finish the game as I am. No choice :(

I just smacked my memory back into gear, and yeah this fight you need to guide the attacks he uses against you to hit him - but I promise it wont ruin a pacifist run, I've done it myself (after wasting time trying to talk to him for ages), so yeah umm go nuts :p

You can't kill Mad Dummy. You can only kill Mad Dummy on a Genocide run.

^ to clarify, attacking the Mad Dummy always causing in a miss, as the Mad Dummy is incorporeal.

Attacking anything, as long as it doesn't result in them dying, won't cancel the pacifist run.

As long as you gain 0 EXP, any other action you do is fine.

If you directly kill it, by your own hands, using the attack option, the pacifist run is canceled. Otherwise, feel free to do as you wish.

The rewards screen didn't pop up, and I didnt defeat him: a ghost did it. The key is to just do the spare action.

Nothing locks you out of the Pacifist runthrough except for gaining EXP and failing to water the fish. You can't damage Mad Dummy at all or kill him for EXP, so it doesn't matter what actions you take during the fight.

When the fish is available to be hydrated, the game will make it painstakingly obvious. You haven't reached that point of the game yet.
