Assuming one does not suck too much at battles, the story is where it really shines. The fun of finding the way to give mercy to different monsters as well. Being bad at a game never makes it enjoyable. Undertale or any other games, failing just ruins the experience and it's perfectly normal.
The story is amazing but it's not really fun if you can't even experience it. There are not many solutions to this. Either you become better at the battles or you give up. Unless you cheat but I believe this gets you some cheater ending or not sure what. It's a shame you can't play this.
Well, don't worry! You still have several other ways to continue enjoying the game! :)
1- check what kind of device you're using. Are you using a Keyboard? Or are you using a controller? Some people find that they prefer controller over keyboard. This may make things easier for you.
2- It might be aggrivating, but practice does make perfect.... maybe something will click if you keep trying. Don't force it too much though...
3- you can enjoy it by watching someone else play it! Although, that might not be your style either.
4- accept that it might not be your kind of game and decide to just drop it. You're allowed to have your own opinion :)
Keep practising, I was bad too until I just kept practising until it was pretty much beyond reason to do so.
Look for the ways that the game will try to break the fourth wall. Also, the main part of the game isn't actually the combat/battle system - it's actually the lore and story (and the characters), so try to look out for that. You will understand what the game is trying to tell you once you reach the end - but until then just keep practising, if you have enough Determination(tm) your pay-off will be observing the consequences, good or bad, of your actions.
Holy cow, that sounds sensitive fanboyish AF.
Nope.
