Out of intrest, how long does the game take on average?

depends. If you're going for a neutral run, probably 3 hours. if you're going for true pacifist on the other hand, it could be around 6 hours.

Depends. If you don't care about dialouge or story and just look at progressing through the game, it should take 2 hours. If you want back story and interaction and experience every possible ending, more than 32 hours.

My first play took 10 hours.

Depends.
Speed runs:
Genocide takes around 1 hour 10 minutes,
Neutral takes around 1 hour
True pacifist takea around 1 hour 50 minutes

But that's just speed runs. Most runs are neutral or pacifist.
Genocide runs, on average, take around 4-5 hours, but if you count deaths, skill level, and the amount of time people take on re-doing bosses, it could take maybe 2-8 hours. Most first-time genocide runners probably take around 8-ish hours, it's really hard to beat undyne and sans quickly. But if you do it again, maybe it's easier, and takes around 6-ish hours. If you're good you can beat it in 2. If you're speed running it, maybe 1 hour 30 minutes. World record around 1 hour 10 minutes.
Neutral runs are pretty consistent, around 4-5 hours. It really depends on your flowey split though. That can make or break a run's time. Probably an hour to 45 minutes on flowey alone I'd say? I beat it in 6 my first time, 'cause I died around 20 times, 10 on flowey. Yeah, I suck. But this also depends on if you do the papyrus date, undyne friend thing, and alphys date. Each of those take maybe 10 minutes, I'd say.
True pacifist, basically whatever you get on your neutral, but counting the dates, and an additional 30-ish minutes for the true laboratory, and then the final boss asriel, add maybe 45 minutes to an hour. The whole thing comes out to around 6-8 hours, maybe? Took me around 8 on my first time.

Actually, there's around... maybe 20 endings in neutralist? So to get every phone call it takes around 80 hours at least.

2 hours if you're doing Neutral. 2-3 hours on Pacifist. Maybe an hour and 40 minutes on Genocide.

The first run is the longest, since you don't know where to go and want to explore. Subsequent runs get shorter and shorter. My first run took me 6 hours or so.
