Anyway to Save your Save File and Start a New Game?
I just finished a True Pacifist run, and I'm thinking about starting a Genocide run. (oh god) Thing is, I'm worried about doing a True Reset, and don't want to lose my data with all of my new friends ;-; Is there anyway I can save all of the data and import it after a Genocide run? (Or start a Genocide run while still having all of my TP data)

The Undertale save folder is usually located at C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\UNDERTALE. Remove file0, file8, file9, and undertale.ini from the folder. Place them somewhere else safe on the computer and name the folder "happy friends" or something.

When you're done with the Genocide runthrough, you can delete the currently existing Genocide files in the Undertale save folder and replace them with the files from the "happy friends" folder.

Note: During the end of a Genocide route, there are 2 specific files that get added at different points: system_information_962 and system_information_963.

The point of no return is in the Throne Room. Specifically, it occurs after answering the prompt given to you in the Throne Room. If you do answer the prompt, the game will close by itself. The moment the game closes, your Undertale save folder will get system_information_962.

The game will be in a unique status due to system_information_962. While the game is in this unique status, another prompt will be provided if you wait for 10 minutes. Agreeing to this prompt there will replace system_information_962 with system_information_963. This is the file that alters the Pacifist ending. This file persists through True Resets.

Steam will re-insert system_information_962. However, recent reports have stated that system_information_963 no longer gets re-inserted. This means you can easily delete system_information_963 to prevent the altered "bad" version of the Pacifist route. If the reports aren't true, there are other ways to cause a Steam Cloud conflict so that you can remove the file. But if you want to play it safe, just don't go into the Throne Room.

Thanks for the info. Will the game automatically reset or will I need to do a True Reset after putting the files in a new folder? (I'm kinda thinking that it just auto resets, but I'm asking just to be safe)

If you copy and paste the "happy friends" files, they'll still be in the Undertale save folder, so you can just select True Reset. If you drag the files out of the folder completely, or copy the files somewhere else and empty the folder, the game will act like it's brand-new.

But it's not like you actually care about any of them.

Why would you bother to keep pretending you do? :flowey:
