Please Explain Why This Game is Considered so Good

To me, it looks like a bad RPG with horrible art, jarring colours, gimmicky battle system and, admittely, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ glorious music. Explain why it's so good.
And I don't mean tell me why the fans love it, or your stupid fan theory. Give me gameplay reasons.

Just like any piece of art, you'll either love it or hate it.I bought the game for 2 friends and they only played it for around 20 mins before quitting.

The way the story is uncovered more by the different routes and by the things you do in a fight is pretty interesting to me.

What's stopping me from playing Dragon Quest, Fire Emblem or Final Fantasy? What makes Undertale beat those 3 giants of the RPG franchise?

Because we find it fun... How the f*ck do you want that explained? We enjoy the gameplay of the game. Why? Because it's fun. Why is it fun? Because we like it. Not to mention that a lot of people enjoy the story and characters more than the gameplay and if you actualy listened to what people were praising it for you'd know that's the case. The gameplay is pretty nice aswell, mixing bullet-hell dodging mechanics with the turn based RPG attack with damage determined by the weapon you're using. Bosses are all different having their own mechanics (which are also different depending on what kind of playthrough you're doing). The story brought many people to tears of both happiness and sorrow. The characters are developed so they can make you feel bad about killing them. This game plays with your emotions more than other games even try to. To wrap it up I'd like to say that all these ratings and user scores are only to be used to check if the game is bug ridden (which this one isn't) or not. You can't say a game is good just because a couple million people seem to like it. It's up to you. Even if you try it now and think it's the biggest piece of cr*p ever another couple thousand are still gonna enjoy it. Hope that answers the question.

UnderTale has more engaging combat than Dragon's Quest. It is so if your playing a Pacifist route anyway.
UnderTale has funnier and at the same time more serious characters than Fire Emblem.
UnderTale has a Story while not as deep, much more emotional and Faster than Final Fantasy. If your playing a Genocide run.

Ok, I love RPGs. The three series I mentioned are some of the best ever made. I just want proof that Undertale would be better than games I consider amazing. How is that being a hipster? How is wanting to spend my money in a good way being on a high horse? I'm on a limited income dude, I don't want to buy this then find out my money would be better spent on WoW.

I've played Awakening, Shadow Dragon, and I'll be getting FATES when they come out.

FF7 when it first came out was something spectacular, but that doesn''t excuse it's lost alot of it's luster today. If games didn't age POORLY, that wouldn't be an issue, but they do. And no, I haven't played FF7, but I did play FF13 (the one with Lightning).

I also haven't played DQ, any of them, but my friend does, and he's told me enough about it to give me an idea of my own. The GamePlay simply isn't as involving as UnderTale, although it is more detailed.

In my opinion Undertale really isn't better than Fire Emblem or FF7, and really the only driving factor that bought me to buy this game that it was an RPG that was only $10 and gave me something to do.

Undertale, has a unique cast of characters, variety of options, and any choice changes the gameplay one way or another, it's cheep for the price it would be worth. You an do many different ways to complete it, and the story is so deep you just want to know more. The game itself is mysterious, and the soundtrack is genius, If you want a reason why, then look at the demo, see if you like it, if you don't really like it, then just , move on I guess.. the demo is on some page called undertale, I forgot
