Location of game files?

Looking up the etc...>steamapps>common directory only yields an .exe file-
I'd like to use clean sprites of the characters for editing purposes, and as people are asked not to distribute anything online, I'm trying to find them myself. Any help?

all sprites are held within the .exe file. right click and extract the file into another folder to access the contents

Mmhm, I did that and managed to get the audio files. Everything else seems to be in a .win file within THAT, though, and I'm not sure how to open that? Probably shouldn't be posting here about it if I can just look that up.

Does extracting the files damage the game in any way? I want to be able to still play the game, as I am at the part where you leave the RUINS, after doing so.

Nope, extracting them shouldn't damage the files. If you want to be super careful, though, make sure to copy the exe and work from that.

Use WinRAR to convert it into a complete .zip file. That should reveal any sprites that you are unable to find. If not, then I don't know because I don't really know how to use WinRAR yet.

This thread is from five months ago and I'm not sure how you found it, but I DID eventually get the sprites. Thanks anyways!

i search this discussion cause i was foundering about something...do you think you can possibaly edit sprite files....like make a copy of them, and then keep the copy as a spare and edit the sprite sheet so that the players sprite is different?

years old thread but from what I know it's doable. there's tools made for modding gamemaker in that particular way, I'd recommend you check out the subreddit https://www.reddit.com/r/UnderModders/

Win+ R then digit: %localappdata% open the folder UNDERTALE and here's the files
