Genocide won't trigger?

So I got a neutral ending, with the phone call. I reset and started over. I was going to do Genocide, so I killed everything I encountered. But the music never changed, and I don't get any message about monster not coming. Random battles just stopped happening. Do I have to reset and start over?

you dont just kill every monster you encounter, you have to actively hunt every monster (so just walk back and forth in a room that spawns enemys) eventually youll have killed them all, thus starting the genocide route, after you kill all the enemys in the ruins, save points will start telling you how many monsters you must kill

Yeah, did that. Like I said, the encounters stopped. But the music didn't change. And I just don't get encounters anymore. Still confused if the Reset didn't work right?

OK, got it. Leaving a room resets the encounter rate, so on Genocide you need to say in the same room and walk until you get an encounter. I was just walking from room to room and not getting random encounters.

If the text say, but nobody came then the music changes and the genocide route starts. you'll have too walk a lot to trigger that encounter.

The encounter rate also lowers the more you kill, so it takes longer for the last ones needed to spawn. I’d recommend using the room in the Ruins with the 3 rocks as you are likely to get encounters with 2-3 monsters at a time. You have to kill at least 20 in the Ruins from the point Toriel leaves you on your own. Save points will only say, “Determination” and you’ll get forced “But nobody came” encounters when you have finished the area.

Nah, I made it past Snowdin doing Genocide. I just didn't realize the encounter rate reset so often.
