Undertale

I have a question about something Mettaton said about Alphys and something iffy with the plot (spoilers?)
First playthrough, mostly genocidal but I spared Mettaton, right before boss fight with Asgore

One of the first things Mettaton said to the player was that Alphys has a huge crush on Asgore. Then, later, Alphys goes to the player to inform them that they have to kill Asgore if they want to make it home. Why would Alphys give the player this information?
Alphys seems self-conscious about what the player thinks of her so I doubt she'd program Mettaton to say misinformation about her having a crush on the king for the sole purpose of making Mettaton appear glitchy. Also, while Alphys is entertained by the player, I don't think she deeply cares about them-- or, at least, not to the point that she'd choose the player's life over the king's.
Maybe I didn't understand what I read or I forgot/misunderstood something obvious, but isn't it a bit odd that Alphys is okay with the player living instead of her world's king who she admires and respects?
The game didn't NEED to dispense this information, Asgore more or less gave us this information a minute later. I feel like Alphys was an odd choice of character to suggest the player kill Asgore.
If I misunderstood everything that happened, please explain to me?

Sounds about right.

Alphys neither stops you from or helps you to defeat the king, so there is that. She's torn, perhaps.

Such futile feelings. :flowey:

I just finished the game choosing to kill Asgore rather than sparing him. In this playthrough I killed everyone that challenged me except Papyrus and Mettaton and this caused Mettaton to become the new ruler and, according to Papyrus, Mettaton had statues of himself and Alphys built but Alphys went missing without explanation, which has me worried, I'm wondering if she was so heart-broken from my character killing off Asgore that she locked herself away or worse?

I missed your comments. Its almost like nostalgia.

Hmm yeah op, alphys is pretty complicated. But what if she didnt say it. Asgore would have killed the human for the sake of the underground. And alphys has the guilt then as she send you to die without a fair chance.

Imagine you trying to run past him and realizing you cant cross. Betrayed and lied to. Thats a thought for alphys she cant handle to lie to a kid. And as far as i know all monsters are pretty honorfull with accepting turns and even helping you mostly on how to defeat them.

-papyrus says how to avoid his moves. He tells you beforehand if he will use his special move.
- undyne gives you a spear to defend yourself with, and wants to defeat you honorably, she even goes soft couple of times at the start if you dont avoid the first few hits as she also wants a challenge.

All in all monsters are not the type to backstab you in fights if their enemy (you) are also fair.

This is only broken in genocide at the final boss.
